This medication is used to improve symptoms in adult patients with atherosclerotic conditions such as ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, and peripheral arterial disease. Additionally, it helps prevent and improve cardiovascular complications in adult patients with acute coronary syndrome, especially those with unstable angina or non-ST elevation myocardial infarction who have received or are scheduled to receive drug therapy or coronary interventions. It is effective in reducing the risk of stroke and thromboembolism in atrial fibrillation patients with one or more vascular risk factors for which vitamin K antagonists are not suitable due to low bleeding risk. In this way, it manages various risk factors associated with cardiovascular diseases to stabilize patients' health and improve symptoms.

How to take

Adult dose

For patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, administer Clopidogrel at 75 mg once daily orally. For patients with acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina or non-ST elevation myocardial infarction), start with a loading dose of 300 mg once daily on the day of treatment initiation, followed by a maintenance dose of 75 mg once daily orally. In this case, aspirin 75 - 325 mg should also be administered once daily.

Precautions

This medication prevents the clumping of platelets in the blood, thus preventing thrombosis. However, it must be converted into an active metabolite by a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) in the liver to be effective. Individuals genetically deficient in this enzyme may experience reduced effects, and treatment options may need to be reconsidered. Additionally, co-administration with drugs that activate this enzyme may increase the concentration of the active ingredient, elevating bleeding risk, thus co-administration should be avoided. This medication should not be used in patients with bleeding, severe liver damage, breastfeeding women, or patients with certain lactose-related genetic disorders. Patients at high risk of bleeding or with coagulation issues should use this medication cautiously, and if surgery is planned, it should be discontinued 5-7 days prior. If any bleeding symptoms occur, immediately inform a doctor and undergo blood tests. The use of this medication in conjunction with other antiplatelet agents, anticoagulants, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), and selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) may increase bleeding risk, thus caution is advised. While no fetal effects have been reported during pregnancy, bleeding risk during delivery may be increased, and it is advisable to stop the medication 5-7 days before delivery. During breastfeeding, as the drug may be excreted in breast milk, either breastfeeding should be discontinued or the medication should be stopped. Elderly patients or those with impaired kidney or liver function may have a higher risk of bleeding, requiring dosage adjustments and monitoring of their condition. Overdosage of this medication may prolong bleeding time and result in bleeding complications, requiring immediate medical attention, and platelet transfusion may reverse the drug's effects. During the use of this medication, abnormal symptoms such as bleeding, skin rash, dyspepsia, headache, dizziness, etc., may occur, requiring consultation with a physician if any abnormal symptoms arise. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should not be transferred to another container for safety.
