Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with known allergies to specific components or in those who have previously shown hypersensitivity reactions to beta-lactam antibiotics. Caution is advised for patients with diseases accompanied by viral infections, especially those with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia, as they may have an increased risk of rash. Patients with liver dysfunction or a history of jaundice should be careful when using this medication, as liver function may worsen. Dosing adjustments and dosing interval modifications are essential for patients with impaired liver function or severe kidney disorders. Those with a history of allergies or gastrointestinal diseases should use it cautiously. This medication may cause gastrointestinal side effects including diarrhea, abdominal pain, and vomiting; in severe cases, serious colitis such as pseudomembranous colitis may occur. Discontinue immediately and consult a healthcare provider upon symptom onset. Elevated liver enzyme levels or symptoms of liver abnormalities such as hepatitis and jaundice may occur, thus regular liver function tests are necessary, particularly for elderly patients or those on prolonged treatment. Severe skin reactions, including rashes, itching, and, in rare cases, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, may occur, hence medication should be discontinued immediately upon any unusual symptoms. Blood tests have indicated decreased white blood cells and decreased platelet levels. Regular blood testing is advised for prolonged use. CNS side effects such as anxiety, confusion, and seizures have been reported rarely, and neurological symptoms may be more prevalent in patients with reduced kidney function. This medication is excreted via the kidneys; hence, dosing adjustments are necessary for patients with impaired kidney function, and acute renal failure or nephritis may occur, requiring careful monitoring. Antibiotic use can disrupt intestinal bacterial balance, leading to infections such as candidiasis, necessitating appropriate measures if symptoms arise. There may be a tendency for bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency, so caution is required, especially in elderly patients or those at risk of vitamin K deficiency. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should avoid use, especially during the first three months, and breastfeeding women should discontinue if any side effects appear in the infant. Safety has not been established for premature infants and neonates; hence caution is needed in their use. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, consultation with a healthcare provider is essential, particularly when combined with anticoagulants or certain antibiotics. In cases of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, renal failure, seizures, and allergic reactions may occur; immediate medical attention is required for appropriate treatment. Shake well before use, store in a sealed container to protect from air and moisture, and use within 7 days after opening.
