Improvement of essential hypertension
Essential hypertension refers to a condition where blood pressure is persistently high without a specific cause. This medication effectively lowers blood pressure, reducing the burden on the heart and blood vessels. It also helps prevent complications, thereby decreasing the risk of stroke and heart disease. Continuous treatment aids in the stable management of blood pressure. It is essential to use this medication according to the dosage prescribed by a physician based on the patient's health condition. This medication is used for the treatment of essential hypertension.
The recommended initial dose is 10mg once a day, taken regardless of meal times. If blood pressure is not adequately controlled, the dose can be increased to 20mg once a day. The maximum dose can be increased to 40mg once a day. The blood pressure-lowering effect appears within 2 weeks after starting treatment, with maximum effects observed around 8 weeks. If blood pressure is not controlled, it can be combined with other diuretics. To improve adherence, it is recommended to take the medication at the same time every day (e.g., morning). For patients who may have intravascular volume depletion (e.g., those on diuretics, especially with kidney impairment), it is advisable to start at a lower dose while monitoring status closely. <Older Adults> For older patients (65 years and older), no dose adjustment is needed when administering this medication. There have been no observed overall differences in efficacy and safety between older and younger patients, but some older individuals may exhibit a more sensitive response. <Patients with Kidney Impairment> The maximum dose for patients with mild to moderate renal impairment (creatinine clearance 20-60mL/min) is 20mg once a day. <Patients with Liver Impairment> Mild liver impairment does not require dose adjustment. For moderate liver impairment, the recommended initial dose is 10mg once a day, with a maximum increase to 20mg once a day. There is no experience with severe liver impairment, so use is not recommended. <Children> Safety and efficacy have not been established for children.
Safety and efficacy for pediatric patients have not been established, so no dosage instructions are provided.
This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn if administered to women in their second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so if pregnancy is confirmed, discontinue use immediately. Patients with allergies to any ingredient in this medication, patients undergoing kidney dialysis, patients with severe liver disease, or patients with bile duct obstruction should not take this medication. Additionally, patients with hereditary lactose intolerance should avoid taking this medication. Patients with reduced blood volume or salt may experience hypotension, so it is crucial to confirm their condition thoroughly before starting treatment and to monitor closely as needed. This medication can affect kidney function, so patients with kidney disease or those who have undergone kidney transplants should have their kidney function regularly checked through blood tests. There is a risk of hyperkalemia, so especially patients with heart failure or compromised kidney function should have their potassium levels monitored regularly. Patients with aortic or mitral valve stenosis, obstruction, and hypertrophic heart disease need to take special care when taking this medication. Dizziness may occur during treatment, so it is advisable to avoid dangerous activities such as working at heights or driving. Possible side effects during treatment may include dizziness, headache, back pain, indigestion, chest pain, rashes, which are mostly mild and temporary. If severe side effects or allergic reactions are suspected, immediately consult healthcare professionals. When taken with other antihypertensive medications or potassium-sparing diuretics, this medication may increase serum potassium levels, so careful monitoring is required under the guidance of a physician. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women to avoid taking this medication, and breastfeeding women should carefully consider whether to take this medication. Safety for children has not been established, so it should not be administered to children. Elderly patients may have increased drug concentration in the body, necessitating dosage adjustment and caution. In case of overdose, symptoms such as hypotension or palpitations may occur, and if such symptoms arise, notify healthcare professionals immediately. Long-term use of this medication has not been reported to present a carcinogenic risk; however, it is crucial to consistently monitor health status during treatment.
