This medication is used to improve atherosclerotic symptoms in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease. Additionally, it helps improve atherosclerotic symptoms such as cardiovascular-related death, myocardial infarction, stroke, or refractory ischemia in patients with acute coronary syndrome. Furthermore, in patients with atrial fibrillation who have vascular risk factors and where vitamin K antagonists are not appropriate, it is used to reduce the risk of thrombotic events related to atherosclerosis, including stroke and thromboembolism. This drug helps reduce cardiovascular disease-related risks and improve symptoms.

How to take

Precautions

This drug may be less effective in patients with genetically reduced CYP2C19 enzyme function, requiring modifications to treatment or alternative medications for these patients. Additionally, using this drug with medications that activate the CYP2C19 enzyme may increase the concentration of the active ingredient and heighten the risk of bleeding, hence co-administration is not advisable. Patients with allergies to this drug or its components, active bleeding or severe liver impairment, breastfeeding women, and patients with genetic issues like lactose intolerance should not use this drug. Patients with a high risk of bleeding or blood coagulation abnormalities should use this drug cautiously and seek immediate medical attention if bleeding symptoms occur. Patients scheduled for surgery should discontinue the drug 5 to 7 days before the procedure and resume it only after hemostasis has been achieved. This drug can prolong bleeding time, resulting in various bleeding-related side effects such as gastrointestinal bleeding and ocular bleeding, thus caution is advisable when taken with other medications that carry bleeding risks. Regular monitoring through blood tests for bleeding or hematological adverse reactions is essential. While taking this drug, there may be an increased likelihood of bleeding, so care should be taken to avoid injury, and if bleeding does not stop, immediate medical attention should be sought. During pregnancy, it is believed to have minimal effects on the fetus, but an increased risk of bleeding during delivery may recommend discontinuation of the drug at the time of labor or regional block. For breastfeeding individuals, as this drug may be excreted in breast milk, it is advised to discuss with a medical professional whether to continue breastfeeding or to stop the medication. Elderly patients and those with impaired kidney or liver function may have an increased risk of bleeding, so their condition should be closely monitored before and after intake. In case of overdose, bleeding time may be prolonged, and bleeding complications may arise, thus strict adherence to dosage is necessary, and platelet transfusions or other therapies may be needed in cases of significant bleeding. This drug has not been established for safety and efficacy in children, and its use should be avoided in this population. Caution is required when driving or operating machinery during treatment due to the risk of bleeding, and healthcare professionals should be informed of this medication's use when starting new medications or undergoing surgery.
