This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also effective as an adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy patients, both when secondary generalized symptoms are present and absent. Furthermore, it helps improve symptoms in patients with fibromyalgia. Thus, this drug is used to improve various neuro-related disorders and pain.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication is pregabalin and is to be taken orally, dividing the total daily dose into two doses without regard to food. 1. Neuropathic pain 1) Peripheral neuropathic pain - Starting dose of 150 mg per day - Can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days - If necessary, can be increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at 7 day intervals 2) Central neuropathic pain

Child dose

There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12 to 17, so use is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication is used in the treatment of epilepsy and may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior, so mood changes or behavioral changes should be monitored carefully during treatment. It should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or lactose intolerance. Diabetic patients may need adjustments to blood glucose control medications due to weight gain, and if symptoms of angioedema occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately. Elderly patients are at risk of falls due to dizziness or drowsiness, and visual changes such as blurred vision may occur. If this medication is suddenly discontinued, withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, and anxiety may occur, so it should be gradually reduced according to a doctor's instructions. There is a risk of drug abuse, so patients with a history of substance abuse should use it more cautiously and be monitored for signs of abuse. Patients with reduced kidney function may require dose adjustments. Caution is advised when administering this medication to patients with severe heart disease, and the risk of central nervous system depression may increase when combined with opioid analgesics. In the early stages of pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformations, so pregnant women should not take this medication, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraceptive methods. Breastfeeding women are recommended to stop breastfeeding or discontinue this medication as it may pass into breast milk. Dizziness and drowsiness may occur while driving or operating machinery, so such activities should be avoided during the initial phase of treatment. In cases of overdose, symptoms like confusion, drowsiness, depression, seizures, etc., may occur, and treatment such as hemodialysis may be necessary.
