Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive therapy for partial seizures, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used in adults for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain. It is also used as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy patients, whether they have secondary generalized symptoms or not. Additionally, it is effective in the treatment of fibromyalgia. It is used to improve symptoms related to various nervous system disorders.
This medication is pregabalin and should be taken orally in divided doses twice daily, regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: An initial dose of 150 mg daily may be administered, which can be increased to 300 mg daily after 3 to 7 days. If necessary, it can be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg daily at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dosage
There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years, therefore use is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior; therefore, if changes in mood or unusual behavior occur during treatment, it is crucial to inform a healthcare professional immediately. Patients with allergies to any ingredients in this medicine or certain genetic lactose metabolism disorders should not take it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may require dose adjustment of blood sugar control medications. If allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, discontinue use of the medication immediately. Elderly patients need to be cautious due to higher risk of accidents from dizziness or drowsiness. This medication may cause blurred vision or vision changes; consult a healthcare professional if such symptoms appear. Discontinuing this medication suddenly may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, nausea, and anxiety, so it should be tapered off under a physician's guidance. Patients with a history of drug abuse may have an increased risk of misuse with this medication and should be managed carefully. Patients with impaired renal function may require dose adjustments. Patients with heart disease may be at risk for congestive heart failure and should be monitored closely. There may be an increased risk of respiratory depression if taken in combination with central nervous system depressants. During early pregnancy, there may be a risk of fetal malformations, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant must consult with a healthcare professional and use effective contraception. Breastfeeding women should consult a healthcare professional about whether to stop breastfeeding or discontinue the medication since it can be passed through breast milk. It is advisable to avoid dangerous activities such as driving or operating machinery while experiencing dizziness or drowsiness after taking this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, or depression may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. Keep out of reach of children and store in a safe place; transferring to another container may pose risks of accidents or degradation of quality.
