Relief of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in epilepsy, treatment of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It also helps as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, whether or not there are secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it is effective in relieving the symptoms of fibromyalgia. It is widely used for the treatment of various nerve-related diseases, improving patients' symptoms.
This medication is taken orally twice a day, regardless of meals, totaling a daily dose. 1. Neuropathic Pain 1) Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: The starting dose is 150 mg daily, which may be increased to 300 mg daily after 3 to 7 days and may be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg daily at intervals of 7 days if necessary. 2) Central Neuropathic Pain: The starting dose is 150 mg daily.
The safety and efficacy data for pediatric patients under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12-17 years is insufficient, and administration is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so mood or behavioral changes should be carefully monitored during use. Do not take this medication if you have hypersensitivity to it or if you have genetic issues such as lactose intolerance. Diabetic patients may experience impacts on blood sugar control due to weight gain, so regular blood sugar monitoring and dose adjustment are necessary. If allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, immediately discontinue the medication and consult your healthcare provider. Elderly patients should be cautious of the risk of falls due to dizziness or drowsiness and should inform their healthcare provider of any changes in vision. Abruptly discontinuing this medication may trigger withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety, so it should be gradually tapered off according to a physician's instructions. Due to the potential for drug abuse or dependence, patients with a history of substance use should exercise particular caution and report any unusual behaviors immediately. Patients with impaired kidney function may need dose adjustments, and patients with heart disease should use it cautiously. Caution should also be exercised when combining this medication with opioid analgesics as it may enhance central nervous system depressant effects. It is advisable for pregnant women not to take this medication in early pregnancy due to potential effects on the fetus, and women of childbearing age should use effective contraception. During breastfeeding, since this medication may be passed into breast milk, the mother should discuss either discontinuing breastfeeding or discontinuing the medication with her doctor. This medication may cause dizziness and drowsiness, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery after taking it. Severe skin adverse reactions may occur rarely, so if any rashes or swelling develop, immediately discontinue use and consult a healthcare provider. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, depression, or seizures may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in oral/ocular mucosa, shortness of breath or respiratory difficulty, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by coughing and fever, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), extreme lethargy, sudden and severe headaches, thunderclap headaches, seizures, altered consciousness, visual disturbances, paralysis.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture, so it should be stored in a sealed container. It is best to maintain storage temperatures between 15 and 30 degrees Celsius.
