Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive effect for partial seizures in epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia.
This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunct therapy for patients with epilepsy experiencing partial seizures, with or without secondary generalized symptoms. Additionally, it is effective in alleviating pain in fibromyalgia patients. This medication is used to help improve symptoms related to various neurological disorders.
This medication should be taken orally, divided into two doses daily, regardless of meals. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg daily; may increase to 300 mg daily after 3 to 7 days, and further increase to a maximum of 600 mg as needed at 7-day intervals. - Central neuropathic pain: Starting dose of 150 mg daily; may increase to 300 mg daily after one week based on individual response.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors; therefore, it is essential to inform healthcare professionals immediately if depressive symptoms or mood changes occur during treatment. Patients with allergies to any component of this medication should not take it. Patients with lactose intolerance should also avoid taking this medication. Diabetic patients may experience difficulty in blood sugar control due to weight gain, necessitating possible adjustments in antidiabetic medication doses. If symptoms of angioedema occur, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Elderly patients are at a higher risk of falling due to dizziness or drowsiness and should be cautious while using this medication. This medication may cause temporary blurred vision or changes in vision; if these symptoms occur, consult a healthcare professional. Abruptly discontinuing this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headaches, and anxiety, so it should be tapered off gradually in consultation with a healthcare professional. Patients with a history of substance abuse may have a higher risk of abusing this medication; caution is advised during use. Patients with impaired kidney function may require dose adjustments. Patients with severe heart disease should use this medication cautiously. Taking this medication with opioid analgesics increases the risk of central nervous system depression, so caution is warranted. Patients with respiratory or kidney conditions, as well as the elderly, may have a higher risk of severe respiratory depression and may require dose adjustments. In early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformations; therefore, it is advisable not to take this medication during pregnancy, and fertile women should use effective contraceptive methods. This medication may pass into breast milk; therefore, consideration should be given to either stopping breastfeeding or discontinuing this medication. Dizziness or drowsiness may occur during driving or operating machinery, necessitating caution. Severe skin reactions may rarely occur; if skin abnormalities develop, stop taking the medication immediately and consult a healthcare professional. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as dizziness, confusion, depression, and seizures may occur, requiring immediate medical treatment. Store out of reach of children and avoid transferring to other containers.
Hives, severe swelling (edema), angioedema, tightness in the chest, difficulty breathing, cold sweats, pallor, severe rash accompanied by high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mucous membranes of mouth/eyes, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, respiratory abnormalities accompanied by cough and fever, yellowing of skin or eyes (jaundice), significant lethargy, sudden and severe headache, lightning-like headaches.

This medication should be stored in a tightly sealed container to protect it from air and moisture. It is best stored at room temperature between 15 to 30 degrees Celsius.
