This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunct for partial seizures in epilepsy patients, aiding in symptom relief regardless of the presence of generalized symptoms. How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken orally in two divided doses daily regardless of food. Peripheral type neuropathic pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days, and may further increase to a maximum of 600 mg as needed at intervals of 7 days. Central type neuropathic pain: Starting dose is 150 mg per day, which can be increased to 300 mg per day after one week.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so mood changes or unusual behaviors should be monitored closely during treatment. Patients allergic to any of the components of this medication should not take it. Diabetic patients should be cautious as weight gain may necessitate adjustments in their blood sugar control medications. If serious allergic reactions such as angioedema occur, discontinuation of the medication is required. In early pregnancy, there may be a risk of fetal malformation, so this medication should be avoided during pregnancy, and effective contraceptive methods should be used by women of childbearing age. During breastfeeding, this medication is transmitted through breast milk; therefore, breastfeeding should be discontinued or a doctor consulted. Hazardous activities like driving or operating machinery should be avoided until drowsiness or dizziness from taking this medication resolves. In case of overdose, symptoms such as confusion, drowsiness, and depression may occur. Appropriate treatment, such as hemodialysis, may be required if necessary.
