Treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain, adjunctive treatment for partial epilepsy, improvement of fibromyalgia
This medication is used for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, applicable whether or not secondary generalized symptoms are present. Additionally, it is effective for the treatment of fibromyalgia. It helps alleviate symptoms of various neurological disorders and provides pain relief.
This medication is taken orally in two divided doses daily, regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic pain - Peripheral neuropathic pain: initial dose of 150 mg per day, can be increased to 300 mg per day after 3 to 7 days, and can be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg per day at intervals of 7 days. - Central neuropathic pain: initial dose of 150 mg per day, can be increased to 300 mg per day after 1 week.
Administration in children under 12 years of age and adolescents aged 12 to 17 years is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so any mood changes or abnormal behaviors during treatment should be reported to healthcare professionals immediately. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or certain genetic issues like lactose intolerance should not take it. Diabetic patients may experience weight gain from this medication, which may necessitate adjustments to their blood sugar control medications. If symptoms of angioedema, such as swelling of the face or neck, occur, medication should be stopped immediately. Elderly patients should be cautious of the risk of falls due to dizziness or drowsiness while taking this medication, particularly at the beginning of treatment. This medication can temporarily impair vision or cause changes in eyesight; consult a physician if such symptoms occur. Sudden discontinuation of this medication may lead to withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety, so it should be reduced gradually according to a physician's instructions. Because of the potential for drug abuse or dependence, patients with a history of mental illness or drug abuse should take this medication with special caution. Patients with renal impairment may require dosage adjustments for this medication. Severe cardiac patients should take this medication with caution. The risk of respiratory depression may increase when taken with other central nervous system depressants or opioid analgesics, so care should be taken. During early pregnancy, it may pose risks to the fetus, so women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant must consult a physician before taking it, and effective contraception should be used during treatment. Lactating women should consider the possibility of this medication transferring into breast milk when deciding whether to breastfeed while on medication. Tasks requiring concentration, such as driving or operating machinery, should be avoided until the dizziness or drowsiness caused by this medication has fully resolved. If severe rashes, swelling, difficulty breathing, or other symptoms occur during treatment, stop taking this medication immediately and seek emergency treatment. Overdose may result in confusion, drowsiness, and depression; dialysis treatment may be necessary if needed. This medication should be kept out of reach of children and should not be transferred to other containers.
