This medication is used to treat peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also used as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures (regardless of whether they are secondary generalized). Finally, it helps alleviate the symptoms of fibromyalgia. It is effective in improving symptoms of various nerve-related disorders.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken orally in two divided doses regardless of food intake. 1. Neuropathic Pain 1) Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dosage is 150 mg daily. After 3 to 7 days, it can be increased to 300 mg daily, and thereafter can be further increased to a maximum of 600 mg daily at intervals of 7 days. 2) Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dosage is 150 mg daily.

Child dose

There is insufficient safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years and adolescents aged 12-17, and use is not recommended.

Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so mood or behavioral changes should be closely monitored during treatment. Patients with allergies to the components of this medication should not take it. Diabetic patients may need to adjust the dosage of blood glucose control medications due to weight gain. If symptoms of angioedema appear, treatment should be discontinued immediately, and elderly patients should be cautious of falls due to dizziness or drowsiness. Vision changes such as blurred vision may occur, so consult a doctor if unusual symptoms arise. When discontinuing this medication, withdrawal symptoms such as insomnia, headache, and anxiety may occur, so medical advice should be sought. Due to the risk of substance abuse, extra caution is needed for those with a history of substance abuse, and signs of misuse should be monitored during treatment. Patients with reduced kidney function may need dosage adjustments. Patients with heart disease should exercise caution when taking this medication. As it has central nervous system depressant effects, caution should be taken when using it with opioid pain relievers due to an increased risk of respiratory depression. In early pregnancy, there is a risk of fetal malformation, so pregnant women should either avoid taking it or make careful decisions, and women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception. Lactating women should consider discontinuing breastfeeding or the medication, as this drug may pass into breast milk. It is advisable to avoid dangerous activities such as driving or operating machinery until dizziness or drowsiness completely resolves.
