This medication is used effectively for the treatment of peripheral and central neuropathic pain in adults. It is also utilized as an adjunctive treatment for partial seizures in patients with epilepsy, whether or not secondary systemic symptoms are present. It is additionally used to alleviate the symptoms in patients with fibromyalgia. Overall, it is a useful drug for the management of various neurological diseases and pain.
This medication is administered orally divided into two doses daily regardless of food. 1. Neuropathic Pain - Peripheral Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg daily and can be increased to 300 mg daily within 3 to 7 days, then increased to a maximum of 600 mg at 7-day intervals. - Central Neuropathic Pain: Starting dose is 150 mg daily, which can be increased to 300 mg daily after 1 week,
Safety and efficacy data for children under 12 years old and adolescents aged 12-17 are insufficient, so administration is not recommended.
This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behaviors, so if any symptoms of depression or mood changes occur, it should be reported to a healthcare provider immediately. This medication should not be taken if there is hypersensitivity to it or specific genetic lactose-related disorders. Diabetes patients may be affected in blood sugar control due to weight gain, and adjustments in the dosage of blood sugar medications may be necessary.
