How to take

Adult dose

This medication is administered 1-2 times a day before meals or with meals. The dose can be adjusted based on proper blood glucose monitoring. The initial dose is Glimepiride/Metformin Hydrochloride 2 mg/500 mg, and it can be gradually increased up to 8 mg/2000 mg. Generally, there is little additional effect when Glimepiride is taken in doses greater than 4 mg per day, although some patients may be increased to 6 mg or 8 mg.

Precautions

This medication may pose a risk of severe lactic acidosis or hypoglycemia; therefore, treatment should be temporarily suspended and a doctor consulted if there is a rapid decline in kidney function or signs of dehydration. This medication should not be used in patients with impaired kidney function; extra caution is required for elderly patients or in situations where kidney function may change. Regular checks of blood glucose levels, kidney function, liver function, and blood tests should be conducted to monitor for any abnormalities during the use of this medication. Since this medication may interact with other drugs, it is essential to inform healthcare providers if taking other medications or starting any new ones. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should avoid using this medication, and it should also be avoided during breastfeeding.   • Hives, severe swelling (edema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor (severe allergic reaction)

  • Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, asthma attacks, breathing difficulties accompanied by cough and fever (respiratory problems)
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), profound drowsiness (liver abnormalities)
  • Sudden and severe

Mild side effects

  • Gastrointestinal symptoms (diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, loss of appetite, dyspepsia, constipation, abdominal pain), can improve with temporary dose reduction
  • Metallic taste discomfort, vision impairment, taste disorders, hypothyroidism, magnesium deficiency with diarrhea, encephalopathy, hair loss, weight gain
  • Thrombocytopenia, leukopenia, hemolytic anemia, erythrocytopenia, agranulocytosis, pancytopenia
  • Vitamin B12 reduction and megaloblastic anemia,
