Precautions

This medication may increase the risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior in children, adolescents, and young adults with major depressive disorder or psychiatric disorders, so a doctor must carefully evaluate the necessity and risks before use. Patients of all ages should be closely monitored for changes in suicidal tendencies or behavior after starting treatment, and family or caregivers should also closely observe the patients. This medication is not approved for the treatment of pediatric depression, and in patients with bipolar disorder, manic or mixed episodes may occur, so the presence of bipolar disorder should be confirmed prior to use. While taking this medication, serious side effects known as Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome may occur, and if symptoms such as high fever, muscle rigidity, or altered mental status occur, immediate medical attention is necessary. Long-term use may lead to tardive dyskinesia, an irreversible neurological condition, so it is recommended to use the minimum effective dose for the shortest duration. In elderly patients with dementia, the risk of cerebrovascular accidents such as strokes and mortality may increase, so it is advisable not to use it in this population. Since it may affect blood sugar control, diabetic patients or those at risk of hyperglycemia should regularly monitor their blood glucose levels. Due to the risk of venous thromboembolism, patients with risk factors for thrombosis should be closely monitored before and during administration. This medication should not be administered to patients with previous allergic reactions or lactose intolerance. Caution is advised while driving or operating dangerous machinery for patients with orthostatic hypotension, history of seizures, or impaired judgment or motor ability. Care should also be taken in patients with temperature regulation disorders or dysphagia. This medication can cause side effects such as drowsiness, insomnia, anxiety, headache, vomiting, constipation, and patients should consult with a doctor if abnormal movement symptoms or mental changes occur. In particular, close observation of side effects and unusual behaviors is important, especially at the beginning of treatment or when doses are changed.
