This medication helps prevent the occurrence of asthma and continuously manage symptoms. It is also used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis. Therefore, it is effective in improving the respiratory health of patients with asthma and allergic rhinitis.

How to take

Adult dose

This medication should be taken once daily, preferably in the evening for asthma patients. For patients with both asthma and allergic rhinitis, the dosage is one tablet once daily, taken in the evening. This medication should be administered 1 hour before a meal or 2 hours after a meal.

Child dose

Children aged 2 to 5 years should chew 4 mg once daily as montelukast.

Precautions

This medication is used to treat asthma and allergic rhinitis. While taking this medication, neuropsychiatric symptoms such as agitation, anxiety, depression, sleep disorders, hallucinations, suicidal thoughts or actions may occur, so any changes should be reported to a doctor immediately. This medication contains an artificial sweetener called aspartame, so patients with phenylketonuria should avoid taking it. Do not take this medication if you are allergic to it or any of its components. Side effects such as fatigue, headache, indigestion, cough, or rash may occur, so if symptoms are severe, consult a doctor. This is not a medication for acute asthma attacks; a separate inhaled bronchodilator should always be kept on hand for emergencies. Do not abruptly stop inhaled or oral steroid medications while taking this medication; they should be gradually adjusted under a doctor's guidance. Patients with hypersensitivity to aspirin or non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs should avoid taking those medications while using this drug.
