Adult dosage

Efficacy & effects

This medication helps improve symptoms arising from estrogen deficiency after menopause. It is also used for the prevention of osteoporosis in postmenopausal women at high risk of fractures when other osteoporosis prevention treatments are not suitable.

Dosage

This medication should be taken once daily, at the same time each day. The tablets should be taken with water or another drink, and it is recommended to take them at the same time each day. No dosage adjustments are necessary in the elderly. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as remembered within 12 hours, but if more than 12 hours have passed, the missed dose should not be taken, and the next regular dose should be taken instead.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in pregnant or breastfeeding women. It should also not be administered to patients with breast cancer or suspected breast cancer, or those with a history of breast cancer. Additionally, it is contraindicated in patients with estrogen-dependent malignancies or suspected malignancies, patients with undiagnosed vaginal bleeding, or those with untreated endometrial hyperplasia. This medication is also contraindicated in patients with a past or present history of venous thromboembolism (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism) or diseases with a high risk of thrombosis, as well as in patients with a history of arterial thromboembolism. It should not be used in patients with severe hepatic impairment, those hypersensitive to the components of this medication, or patients with porphyria. Patients with genetically confirmed lactose intolerance or specific lactase deficiency should also not take this medication, as it contains lactose. If hepatic function deteriorates, blood pressure rises, or migraines occur while taking this medication, treatment should be discontinued. Patients with uterine fibroids, endometriosis, risk factors for thromboembolism, factors for estrogen-dependent tumor risks, hypertension, liver disease, diabetes, cholelithiasis, migraines, systemic lupus erythematosus, a history of endometrial hyperplasia, epilepsy, asthma, or otosclerosis should be closely monitored during treatment. This medication can cause a variety of adverse reactions, including breast tenderness, vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, skin rash, and weight gain; it may particularly increase the risk of breast cancer, endometrial cancer, stroke, and thromboembolism. Therefore, regular medical check-ups and breast and endometrial examinations are necessary while taking this medication. This medication may affect blood coagulation when used with anticoagulants, so careful dosage adjustments and monitoring are required when taking anticoagulants. There may also be interactions with certain medications, so patients must inform their healthcare provider about any other medications they are taking. This medication must not be taken during pregnancy, and if pregnancy occurs while on this medication, it should be discontinued immediately. Breastfeeding women should also not take this medication. In case of overdose, symptoms may include nausea, vomiting, and vaginal bleeding. There is no specific antidote, so appropriate treatment should be administered based on symptoms. Finally, this medication should be stored out of reach of children and kept in its original packaging.
