This medication is used to control blood pressure in patients with essential hypertension. It also helps improve symptoms in heart failure patients who are intolerant to ACE inhibitors, particularly those classified as NYHA class II to IV. It is effective in reducing the risk of death in patients with left ventricular dysfunction or reduced contractility following a myocardial infarction. How to take

Adult dose

Precautions

This medication can cause serious harm to the fetus and newborn, especially during the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, so it should be discontinued immediately upon confirmation of pregnancy. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. It should not be used by patients with severe liver dysfunction, cirrhosis, or biliary obstruction. Additionally, patients with hereditary angioedema or a history of angioedema while receiving ACE inhibitors or angiotensin II receptor antagonists should not use this medication. Patients with severe renal impairment are also advised against using this drug. In diabetic patients with moderate to severe renal impairment, it should not be used in combination with certain medications. The elderly, patients with hyperkalemia, and those with mild to moderate liver impairment should use this medication cautiously, and dosage adjustment may be necessary. Patients with heart valve disease or cardiovascular disease, patients with fluid depletion, and patients with renal artery stenosis also require caution. Patients with heart failure or post-myocardial infarction should have their renal function periodically assessed before and during treatment, as changes in renal function may occur. Blood pressure may drop rapidly, so dosing should be started at a low level and gradually increased while closely monitoring the patient's condition. This medication may increase serum potassium levels, so patients with hyperkalemia should avoid or use it with caution, and potassium levels should be frequently monitored when taken with potassium-sparing diuretics or potassium supplements. Interactions may occur when used in combination with other antihypertensive medications or multiple drugs, so it must be taken as directed by a physician. Symptoms such as dizziness or drowsiness may occur, necessitating caution when driving or operating machinery.
