Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to specific ingredients or those with allergies to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It is safe not to administer to patients with severely impaired renal function or patients undergoing hemodialysis. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as women who are breastfeeding, should not take this medication. It should not be used in infants under 1 year of age, and children under 6 years should be administered the liquid form rather than tablets. Patients with lactose intolerance or a specific genetic deficiency of lactose-hydrolyzing enzymes should not take the tablets. Caution should be taken for patients with decreased renal or liver function and for the elderly, as the blood concentration of this medication may increase. This medication can cause various neurological side effects such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, and fatigue, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Rarely cardiovascular issues such as arrhythmias or elevated blood pressure may occur. Hematological adverse reactions such as leukopenia or thrombocytopenia may also occur, so caution is required. Allergic reactions may lead to skin rashes, itching, and swelling, and blurred vision or conjunctival injection have been reported. Liver and kidney function test results may temporarily increase, necessitating regular monitoring. Drowsiness or fatigue may occur after taking this medication, so caution should be exercised when driving or operating machinery. This medication should be avoided when taken with alcohol, antidepressants, or other central nervous system affecting drugs, as drowsiness or decreased concentration may be exacerbated. Patients with urinary retention issues or risks such as prostatic hypertrophy should use caution when taking this medication. It is safest not to take this medication with other antihistamines or alcohol, and it may interact with certain medications, so consultation with a doctor or pharmacist is advised. Safety has not been sufficiently verified during pregnancy, so its use should be avoided during this period, and during breastfeeding as the medication may be transmitted through breast milk. Dosage adjustments may be needed for children under 12 years, and it is safest not to use in infants under 1 year. The elderly may have accumulation of the drug in the body due to decreased renal function, so starting at a lower dose and closely monitoring their condition is recommended. Taking this medication before allergy tests may affect test results, so it is advisable to stop taking it 3-5 days prior to testing. In the event of an overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness or agitation may occur, and there is no specific antidote, so symptomatic treatment should be provided. This medication is not eliminated by hemodialysis, so rapid medical intervention is needed in case of overdose.
