Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis (seasonal, perennial) and chronic urticaria
This medication is used to relieve symptoms of seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis as well as chronic idiopathic urticaria. It can also be used in adults and children over 6 years of age to alleviate symptoms of dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching, in conjunction with topical hydrocortisone. It helps to effectively improve symptoms of various allergic and skin-related conditions.
For adults and children aged 6 years and older: Take 5mg (10mL as a solution) of levocetirizine hydrochloride orally once a day, regardless of meals. Dosage adjustments should be made for adult patients with renal impairment based on kidney function (creatinine clearance (CLCR(ml/min))). - Mild (50 ≤ CLCR < 80): 5mg once a day - Moderate (30 ≤ CLCR < 50): 5mg twice a day -
For children aged 2 to 6 years: Take 1.25mg (2.5mL as a solution) orally twice a day. For children aged 1 to under 2 years: Take 1.25mg (2.5mL as a solution) orally once a day.
This medication should not be used by individuals who have allergic reactions to certain ingredients or a history of such reactions. It should also not be administered to patients with severely impaired kidney function or those undergoing dialysis. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as breastfeeding women, should not take this medication. It should not be given to infants under the age of 1 year, and children under 6 years old should only be given the liquid form, not the tablet form. Additionally, the liquid contains maltitol, so patients with congenital fructose intolerance should avoid it. Patients with weakened kidney or liver function, and older adults should take caution, as this medication may remain in the body longer and raise its concentration. This drug can cause neurological symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, and dizziness. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as indigestion, nausea, and abdominal pain may also occur, so caution is advised. Patients with heart disease should be particularly careful, as rapid or irregular heartbeat may occur. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions such as blood-related problems, skin rash, itching, and swelling may be reported. Vision disturbances or eye redness have also been documented. Regular check-ups may be necessary due to its potential effects on liver and kidney function. In children, fever, diarrhea, vomiting, and otitis media may commonly occur. Drowsiness or fatigue may occur after taking this medication, so caution should be exercised in activities such as driving or operating machinery. Taking this medication in conjunction with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants can amplify drowsiness or impair concentration. Caution is needed for individuals with urinary excretion difficulties or conditions such as benign prostatic hyperplasia when taking this medication. The liquid contains preservatives and sweeteners, which may lead to allergic reactions or health issues. Co-administration with other antihistamines or alcohol should be avoided. Taking it with food may slow the absorption rate, but it will not have a significant impact on the total absorption amount. Women who are pregnant or breastfeeding should avoid taking this medication, as sufficient safety studies have not been conducted in pregnant women. Doses for children should be adjusted based on age and weight, and it should not be used in infants under 1 year of age. Older adults may have reduced kidney function, so it is recommended to start with a lower dose and monitor their condition closely. It is advisable to temporarily suspend this medication before allergy tests. In case of overdose, drowsiness may intensify, and there are no specific antidotes, so treatment should be provided based on symptoms. Due to difficulties in eliminating this medication through dialysis, special caution is necessary for overdose.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
