This medication helps alleviate symptoms of allergic rhinitis, such as seasonal allergic rhinitis and perennial allergic rhinitis. It is also effective in relieving symptoms of chronic idiopathic urticaria. In the treatment of dermatitis and eczema accompanied by itching, it can be used in conjunction with hydrocortisone topical preparations and is applicable to adults and children over 6 years of age. It is used to relieve symptoms of various allergic and skin conditions.

How to take

Adult dose

For adults and children over 6 years: 5 mg (10 mL as solution) once daily, regardless of meal times. For adult patients with renal impairment, dosages should be adjusted based on renal function (eGFR). - Normal renal function (≥ 90 mL/min): 5 mg once daily - Mild renal impairment (60 -< 90 mL/min): 5 mg once daily

Child dose

For children over 2 years and under 6 years: 1.25 mg (2.5 mL as solution) once, twice daily. For children over 1 year and under 2 years: 1.25 mg (2.5 mL as solution) once daily.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with allergies to specific components or with hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It is advised not to administer it to patients with end-stage renal disease or those undergoing dialysis. It should not be used in infants under 1 year of age, and only liquid form should be given to children under 6 years of age. The liquid form contains maltitol, which should not be used in patients who are genetically unable to digest fructose. Patients with reduced renal or liver function, and the elderly, should use this medication with caution, as blood concentration may increase. It may cause nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, and dizziness, as well as gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea or abdominal pain. Rarely, side effects such as heart rhythm disturbances, changes in blood cell count, allergic reactions, and blurred vision may occur, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported to a doctor immediately. As drowsiness or fatigue may occur after taking this medication, caution should be exercised during activities requiring alertness, such as driving or operating machinery. It is advisable to avoid taking this medication with alcohol or drugs that affect the central nervous system, such as antidepressants, as it may increase drowsiness. Patients with urinary issues or epilepsy should use this medication cautiously, as symptoms may worsen. The liquid form contains preservatives and sweeteners, which may pose a risk of allergic reactions or health problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor considering its effects on the fetus or newborn. For children under 12, the safety and appropriate dosage have been established, but it is safe not to use it in infants under 1 year of age. The elderly may have reduced kidney function, so the dose should be adjusted and closely monitored. It may be necessary to temporarily discontinue this medication before allergy testing for accurate results. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness or agitation may occur, and since there is no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment should be provided.
