How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children over 6 years: 5mg (10mL as a liquid) once a day, administered orally, regardless of meals. For adults with renal impairment, dose adjustment based on kidney function (estimated Glomerular Filtration Rate (eGFR)) is necessary. - Normal kidney function ≥ 90: 5mg once a day - Mild renal impairment 60 ≤ 90: 5mg once a day - Moderate renal impairment 30 ≤ 60:

Child dose

Children over 2 years and under 6 years: 1.25mg (2.5mL as a liquid) once a day, administered orally. Children under 2 years and over 1 year: 1.25mg (2.5mL as a liquid) once a day.

Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to certain ingredients or who have previously shown hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It is also prudent not to administer it to patients with end-stage renal disease or those undergoing hemodialysis. It should not be used in infants under 1 year old, and in children under 6 years old, it should only be administered in liquid form. The liquid formulation contains maltitol, which may not be suitable for patients with congenital fructose intolerance. Caution should be exercised in patients with renal or liver impairment, as drug levels in the blood may be elevated. Drowsiness, headache, dizziness, and fatigue may occur, necessitating caution while driving or operating machinery. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as dry mouth, nausea, reduced appetite, and abdominal pain may occur. Rarely, cardiac symptoms such as palpitations or arrhythmias may appear. Hematologic adverse reactions like leukopenia and platelet abnormalities have been reported, so consult healthcare professionals immediately if abnormal symptoms arise. This medication may trigger allergic reactions, skin rash, or photosensitivity, so monitor for skin changes. Vision disturbances or conjunctival injection may rarely occur. Liver function test results may elevate after taking this medication, thus regular monitoring is recommended for patients with liver disease. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should carefully consider potential impacts on the fetus or newborn before using this medication. Co-administration with alcohol or other central nervous system depressants may exacerbate drowsiness and decreased concentration, so it should be avoided. Patients with epilepsy or a risk of seizures should use this medication cautiously, as it may worsen symptoms. It should be discontinued before allergy testing to avoid affecting test results. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, anxiety, and restlessness may be present, and appropriate treatment based on symptoms is needed since there is no specific antidote. Elderly patients should start at low doses and be observed for prolonged retention of the drug in the body due to diminished renal function.
