Precautions

This medication should not be used in patients with a known allergy to specific ingredients or who have previously had hypersensitivity to hydroxyzine or piperazine derivatives. It should not be administered to patients with severely impaired renal function or those undergoing dialysis. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant, as well as nursing mothers, should not take this medication. Do not use this drug in infants under 1 year of age and for children under 6 years, it should be given in liquid form rather than as a tablet. The tablets contain lactose, so they should not be administered to patients with lactose intolerance or specific genetic deficiencies of lactase. Patients with impaired renal or liver function and elderly patients should be cautious as the blood concentration of this medication may increase. This medication may cause central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, headache, dizziness, and fatigue; caution is needed when driving or operating machinery. Avoid using this medication with alcohol or other CNS depressant drugs, as it may worsen drowsiness or lack of concentration. Patients with urinary retention issues may experience an increased risk of urinary retention, so it should be used cautiously in those with related conditions. There may be potential interactions with other antihistamines or specific drugs, so caution is needed when combined. It is safer for pregnant or breastfeeding women not to use this medication, especially during breastfeeding, as the drug may be transmitted through breast milk. For children under 12 years, dose adjustments may be necessary, and it should not be given to infants under 1 year. Elderly patients may accumulate the drug in the body due to impaired renal function; therefore, treatment should start at a low dose, and their condition should be monitored. It is advised to discontinue this medication prior to allergy testing as it may affect the test results. In case of overdose, symptoms may include drowsiness or agitation, and since there is no specific antidote, symptomatic treatment should be provided.
