How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children aged 12 years and older should take 500 – 1000 mg (equivalent) of amoxicillin and sulbactam sodium orally three times a day.

Precautions

This medication is a penicillin antibiotic and should not be administered to patients with a history of specific allergies. Caution is particularly warranted for patients with hypersensitivity to the drug's components or penicillin and cephalosporin drugs, as they are at risk of rash. Additionally, lactose is present in this medication; therefore, it should not be used in patients with genetic issues such as galactose intolerance, lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption. Patients with gastrointestinal disorders or a history of allergic reactions, those with bronchial asthma or allergic constitutions, severely impaired renal function, patients who find oral intake difficult, and the elderly should be administered this drug with caution. In particular, patients with weakened renal function risk higher drug concentrations and should have administration intervals adjusted while monitoring for bleeding risks due to vitamin K deficiency. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may occur; in severe cases, pseudomembranous colitis may develop, so if diarrhea and abdominal pain worsen, administration should be stopped immediately and treatment sought. Hypersensitivity reactions may manifest as urticaria, serum sickness-like reactions, anaphylactic shock, and other severe allergy symptoms; therefore, if allergic symptoms occur, administration should be stopped immediately. Abnormal renal function, blood disorders, skin rashes, abnormal liver function, and symptoms of neurological system anomalies have also been reported, thus regular checks and monitoring of symptoms are necessary. Patients should consult healthcare professionals immediately if skin itching, rashes, or severe drug reaction symptoms occur. When used over long periods, it is crucial to conduct susceptibility testing to prevent the development of resistant bacteria and to limit administration to the necessary minimum duration. Moreover, interactions may occur when combined with other antibiotics or medications, so patients should definitely inform healthcare professionals of any medications they are currently taking. During pregnancy, the risk to the fetus is low, but the drug should only be used if the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. Caution is also required for breastfeeding, as it may affect infants. In children, especially newborns and those under 6 months, renal function may be insufficient, leading to delayed drug excretion, thus careful administration is necessary. The elderly also need careful monitoring of doses and administration intervals due to reduced physiological functions. In cases of overdose, neurological toxicity or symptoms of renal failure may occur, requiring immediate treatment at a medical institution; if necessary, blood dialysis can be used to remove the drug. This medication may have reduced effectiveness when administered with other drugs, so injection sites should be varied or sufficient administration intervals should be maintained.
