This medication is used as an adjunct in patients with primary hypercholesterolemia and mixed dyslipidemia when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient. In patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia, it is used alongside diet or other lipid-lowering therapies to enhance effectiveness. It also helps lower total cholesterol and LDL cholesterol in patients with hypercholesterolemia, slowing the progression of atherosclerosis. It can be used as an adjunct to diet in pediatric patients aged 10 to 17 years with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia who meet specific criteria. It is also utilized as an adjunct to diet in patients with primary dysbetalipoproteinemia and contributes to reducing the risk of stroke, myocardial infarction, and arterial revascularization in adult patients at high risk for cardiovascular diseases. This medication is effectively used to reduce various types of dyslipidemia and the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
