Treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections
This medication is mainly used for the treatment of mild to moderate various infections. It is effective for upper respiratory infections such as pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media, and acute sinusitis. For lower respiratory infections, it helps with secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis and bacterial exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. It is also used for simple skin and soft tissue infections and treatment of abscesses requiring postoperative drainage. Additionally, it is applied in the treatment of uncomplicated urinary tract infections, especially cystitis. This medication is effectively used for these infections.
○ Adults (13 years and older) 1) For pharyngitis and tonsillitis among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of cefprozil per dose every 24 hours. For acute sinusitis, administer 250mg (potency) or 500mg (potency) every 12 hours (dose increases are necessary for moderate or more severe infections). 2) For bacterial superinfection of acute bronchitis or bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis among lower respiratory tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug per dose every 12 hours. 3) For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 250mg (potency) of this drug per dose every 12 hours [or 500mg (potency) every 24 hours], or 500mg (potency) every 12 hours depending on symptoms. 4) For uncomplicated urinary tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug every 24 hours. <Duration of administration> Administration is usually for about 10 days. However, for pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A beta-hemolytic), administer for 10 days or longer. For uncomplicated cystitis, administer for about 7 days. ○ Patients with renal impairment 1) If creatinine clearance is 30~120mL/min, administer according to the standard dosage regimen above. 2) If creatinine clearance is 29mL/min or less, administer 50% of the standard dose at the standard dosing interval. However, some of this drug is removed by hemodialysis, so administer it after hemodialysis is completed. Once dissolved, refrigerate and take within 14 days (syrup only).
○ Children (2~12 years) For pharyngitis and tonsillitis among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 7.5mg (potency) per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. ○ Children (2~12 years) For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 20mg (potency) per Kg of body weight every 24 hours. ○ Infants and children (6 months~12 years) For otitis media among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 15mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. ○ Infants and children (6 months~12 years) For acute sinusitis, administer 7.5mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. ○ Infants and children (6 months~12 years) For moderate or more severe infections requiring a dose increase, administer 15mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours.
This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic and should not be administered to patients allergic to cephalosporins. Patients with a history of allergy to penicillin or other medications should use this drug cautiously, especially those with impaired renal function who may require dose adjustments. Severe patients or those suspected of having renal impairment should have their renal function closely monitored before and during treatment. Caution should also be exercised in patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases, especially colitis. While taking this medication, gastrointestinal-related side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain may occur, so symptoms should be closely monitored. Liver function test results may be elevated, and cholestatic jaundice may rarely occur, so liver health should also be checked. Allergic reactions such as rashes and urticaria may occur, particularly more frequently in children, so any unusual symptoms should prompt immediate consultation with a physician. Central nervous system symptoms such as dizziness, headaches, and insomnia may rarely occur, and there is also a risk of seizures, so patients with impaired renal function should be especially cautious. Blood tests may show leukopenia or eosinophilia, so regular blood tests are necessary. This medication may increase renal toxicity when used concomitantly with other antibiotics or diuretics, so careful monitoring of renal function is needed when combined. It should only be used during pregnancy when absolutely necessary, and for breastfeeding mothers, consideration should be given to the impact on the infant due to small amounts excreted in breast milk. It is preferable not to use this medication in infants under 6 months of age, as safety and efficacy have not been established. Elderly patients may require dose adjustments due to a higher likelihood of decreased renal function, and attention should be paid to the accumulation of medication and the occurrence of side effects. To prevent the emergence of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, administering this drug for an appropriate duration based on sensitivity tests is essential. If diarrhea occurs during treatment, the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis should be considered, and immediate consultation with medical personnel is needed; appropriate treatment may be required in severe cases. In cases of overdose, this medication is mainly excreted through the kidneys, so patients with impaired renal function can have the drug removed via hemodialysis.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a sealed container that protects against light and kept at room temperature between 1 to 30 degrees Celsius. Proper storage will maintain the medication's efficacy and safety.
