Adult dose

1. Treatment of herpes zoster Adults: Administer famciclovir 250 mg orally 3 times daily for 7 days. It is preferable to start treatment as soon as symptoms appear after infection. 2. Treatment of initial genital herpes infection Adults: Administer this drug 250 mg orally 3 times daily for 5 days. It is preferable to start treatment as soon as symptoms appear after infection. 3. Treatment of acute recurrent genital herpes infection Adults: Administer this drug 125 mg orally 2 times daily for 5 days. It is preferable to start treatment during the prodromal period or as soon as symptoms appear after infection. 4. Suppression of recurrent genital herpes Adults: Administer this drug 250 mg orally 2 times daily. Temporarily discontinue treatment periodically every 6～12 months to observe whether the natural course of the disease has changed. 5. Patients with renal impairment: Since the clearance of this drug decreases in patients with renal impairment, dose adjustments should be made with caution. The dosage and administration for these patients are as follows. 1) Treatment of herpes zoster and initial genital herpes infection: Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 30～59 : 250 mg per dose 2 times daily Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 10～29 : 250 mg per dose 1 time daily 2) Treatment of acute recurrent genital herpes infection: Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 30～59 : 125 mg per dose 2 times daily Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 10～29 : 125 mg per dose 1 time daily 3) Suppression of recurrent genital herpes infection: Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 30～59 : 250 mg per dose 2 times daily Creatinine clearance (mL/min/1.73㎡) 10～29 : 125 mg per dose 2 times daily 4) If only serum creatinine is known, creatinine clearance can be calculated using the following formula. Men: {body weight (kg) × (140-age)}/ {72 × serum creatinine (mg/dL)} Women: 0.85 × the value calculated for men 5) Patients with renal impairment undergoing hemodialysis For patients on hemodialysis, it is preferable to administer the drug every 48 hours, taking the dialysis interval into account. Since 4 hours of hemodialysis reduces the plasma concentration of this drug by approximately 75%, administer this drug immediately after dialysis. The recommended dose is 250mg for patients with herpes zoster and 125mg for patients with genital herpes. 6. Patients with hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment is required in patients with chronic compensated liver disease. Since there is insufficient treatment experience in patients with overt chronic decompensated liver disease, no clear recommended dose has been established.

This medication should not be used in patients who are allergic to this medication or any of its ingredients. Additionally, since the medication contains lactose, it should not be taken by individuals with a genetic disorder that prevents them from digesting lactose. Caution should be exercised when administering this medication to patients with impaired renal function, and dosage adjustments may be necessary as needed. Mild side effects such as headache and nausea have been reported in clinical trials, and rarely symptoms such as decreased blood cell counts, confusion, and hallucinations may occur. Gastrointestinal discomfort, liver function abnormalities, skin rash, and itching may also commonly occur, so caution is advised. This medication does not cure genital herpes, so it is important to avoid sexual contact when symptoms are present and to maintain safe sexual practices. If symptoms such as dizziness or drowsiness arise, one should avoid driving or operating machinery. In cases of mild hepatic impairment, no special dosage adjustments are required; however, effectiveness may be reduced in patients with severe liver dysfunction. This medication does not significantly interact with other drugs, but it is necessary to consult a physician when taking certain medications as blood concentrations may change. The use of this medication has not been established as safe for pregnant or breastfeeding women, so consult a physician and make a careful decision if needed. It is advisable not to use this medication in children under the age of 18 as safety and efficacy have not been confirmed. For the elderly, dosage adjustments are generally not required, but adjustments should be made in cases of reduced renal function. In cases of overdose, immediate medical attention should be sought, and hemodialysis may be used to lower drug concentration. This medication should be stored in a dry place below 30 degrees Celsius and out of reach of children. Furthermore, transferring to another container is not advisable as it may compromise quality.
