It is also applicable for gastrointestinal infections such as sepsis, prevention of infections before and after surgery, bone and joint infections, skin and wound infections, peritonitis, and cholecystitis. It also aids in treating infections in immunocompromised patients and meningitis. With its extensive efficacy, it shows excellent therapeutic effects for various infections.
Adults and children 12 years and older should receive 1-2g (potency) of ceftriaxone once daily by intravenous or intramuscular injection. For infections caused by pathogens showing moderate susceptibility or severe disease, the dose may be increased up to 4g (potency) once daily. In cases of meningitis, age-specific dosing for adults is not explicitly stated, so the standard adult dose should be followed. For gonorrhea treatment, for penicillin-susceptible and resistant strains
In newborns (within 14 days of life), administer 20-50mg (potency) per Kg of body weight once daily, not exceeding 50mg (potency) per Kg. For infants and children (15 days to 12 years), administer based on body weight
This medication should not be mixed or given concurrently with calcium-containing solutions or drugs. Especially in newborns, administering it with calcium may cause precipitation leading to serious side effects, so it should be avoided. Patients with hypersensitivity to this medication or allergies to cephalosporins and penicillins should not use it. Additionally, it may be contraindicated for premature infants or newborns with jaundice, hypoalbuminemia, or acidosis due to potential risks. Patients with a history of drug allergies or allergic conditions, severe renal impairment, elderly patients, and those in poor general health should use this medication with caution. Regularly monitoring liver and kidney function and blood status during this medication is essential. This medication may occasionally cause diverse adverse reactions such as headache, dizziness, rash, diarrhea, changes in blood cell counts, etc. If symptoms occur, healthcare professionals should be notified immediately. Specifically, in cases of severe allergic reactions or shock symptoms, administration should be stopped immediately, and emergency care should be provided. This medication may interact with other drugs, therefore when used with diuretics or aminoglycoside antibiotics, renal function should be closely monitored. Additionally, combining it with vitamin K antagonists may increase the risk of bleeding, necessitating regular checks on coagulation status. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult with their physician before using this medication, as it may affect the fetus or newborn. In newborns and premature infants, this medication can raise bilirubin levels, increasing the risk of encephalopathy, so it is safer not to administer it. Elderly patients may experience adverse reactions more easily due to declining physiological functions, so dosage and administration intervals should be carefully adjusted. During administration, the infusion rate should be slow, and any adverse reactions at the injection site should be closely monitored. It is advisable not to use calcium-containing solutions for dilution. Moreover, the prepared solution should be used as soon as possible, preferably within 6 hours at room temperature or within 24 hours if refrigerated.
