This medication is used to improve symptoms of atherosclerosis in adult patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, peripheral arterial disease, etc. It also reduces the risk of cardiovascular complications in patients with acute coronary syndrome, particularly those with unstable angina or non-Q wave myocardial infarction. It is effective in patients who have undergone coronary interventional procedures or coronary artery bypass surgery, and it decreases the risk of thrombus formation, including stroke. It is particularly helpful in preventing stroke and thromboembolic complications in patients with atrial fibrillation who have a low risk of bleeding and have difficulty taking vitamin K antagonists. This drug plays a crucial role in improving cardiovascular health in patients with vascular risk factors.

How to take

Adult dose

Adults 1. In patients with ischemic stroke, myocardial infarction, or peripheral arterial disease, administer clopidogrel 75 mg orally once daily. 2. In patients with acute coronary syndrome (unstable angina or non-Q-wave myocardial infarction), start with a loading dose of 300 mg once daily on the day treatment with this medicine is initiated, followed by an oral maintenance dose of 75 mg once daily. Precautions

This medication helps prevent platelets from aggregating, facilitating smooth blood flow. Before taking this medication, individuals with a genetic deficiency in a specific enzyme (CYP2C19) may have reduced efficacy; therefore, alternative treatment options should be considered in consultation with a physician. Additionally, taking this medication with drugs that enhance enzyme activity may increase drug concentration and elevate bleeding risk; hence, such combinations should be avoided. This medication should not be taken if there is an allergy to it or its components, in cases of bleeding, severe liver impairment, or if breastfeeding. Patients with genetic issues like lactose intolerance should also avoid taking this medication. Patients at high risk of bleeding, such as those with symptoms of bleeding disorders or issues with blood coagulation, should use this medication cautiously. Patients scheduled for surgery should stop taking this medication 5-7 days prior to surgery and resume it after hemostasis is achieved. This medication may further elevate the risk of bleeding when taken with other bleeding-risk medications. Particularly when taken with drugs like aspirin or warfarin, bleeding risk may increase, so follow a physician's guidance. While taking this medication, it may take longer to stop any bleeding; therefore, if bleeding is severe or persists, consult a doctor immediately. This medication can rarely cause a serious blood condition called Thrombotic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (TTP); if symptoms such as thrombocytopenia, anemia, or renal failure occur, consult healthcare providers immediately. During pregnancy, although effects on the fetus have not been confirmed, there may be an increased risk of bleeding at delivery, so it is advisable to discontinue use 5-7 days prior to delivery. If breastfeeding, since it is not certain whether this medication is excreted in breast milk, discuss whether to continue breastfeeding or discontinue the medication with a physician. Elderly patients and those with impaired renal or liver function may have an increased risk of bleeding; thus, dosage adjustment and monitoring of condition are necessary. Overdosage may increase the risk of bleeding, and as there is no specific antidote, platelet transfusion may be necessary to prevent bleeding. This medication should be kept out of reach of children, and transferring it to another container may affect its quality.
