Dosage

As mequitazine, administer 5 mg orally twice daily. Adjust as appropriate according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This drug should not be used in patients with an allergy to phenothiazine drugs or similar compounds. Patients with glaucoma or urinary obstruction diseases such as prostate enlargement may experience worsening symptoms due to the anticholinergic effects of this drug, so it should not be administered. Patients in a comatose state or taking multiple central nervous system depressants, as well as those on MAO inhibitors should also avoid this medication. Patients with epilepsy or hepatitis, and those with a history of allergies should also steer clear of this drug. For children, especially in tablet form, it is safer not to administer syrup form to infants under 2 years old. Patients with kidney or liver function issues should use this drug cautiously, and attention is also needed for those with peptic ulcers or acute alcohol intoxication, as well as patients with hematological disorders. Patients with asthma or bronchial diseases, those with a history of sleep apnea, and the elderly should also use this drug with caution. This medication can rarely cause hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes, photosensitivity, urticaria, and edema, and if abnormal symptoms appear, usage should be immediately discontinued. Liver function abnormalities may arise, so if symptoms like fatigue or jaundice appear, consult a physician. Blood-related symptoms such as bleeding may occur, so if symptoms like nosebleeds or gum bleeding arise, the drug should be stopped. Central nervous system symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, headaches, and confusion may also occur, requiring caution. Gastrointestinal disturbances like nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, and abdominal pain may develop, so inform a physician if symptoms are severe. Cardiac-related symptoms or difficulties in urination as side effects may also rarely occur. During the use of this medication, drowsiness may occur, so avoid dangerous activities such as driving or operating machinery. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should not use this drug, and breastfeeding women should discontinue nursing, as this medication may be transmitted through breast milk. In pediatrics, safety has not been sufficiently verified, and particularly in infants under 2 years old, serious side effects have been reported, so care should be taken in its use. This drug may interact with other central nervous system depressants, antidepressants, antihypertensives, and alcohol, requiring dosage adjustments. In cases of overdose, symptoms such as lethargy and vomiting may appear, and immediate medical attention should be sought.
