Dosage

The dose of Mequitazine is 5 mg orally, twice daily. The dosage may be appropriately adjusted according to age and symptoms.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients who are hypersensitive to specific drugs. Patients with obstructive lower urinary tract diseases such as glaucoma or benign prostatic hyperplasia should also avoid using this drug. Caution is required for patients in a comatose state, those taking significant amounts of central nervous system depressants, and patients taking specific antidepressants known as MAO inhibitors. It is advisable not to use this drug in patients with epilepsy, hepatitis, or those with a history of allergy to this medication. Patients with heart-related diseases or genetic issues with lactose metabolism should avoid this drug. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function, those with peptic ulcers, and patients with acute alcohol intoxication should use this drug cautiously. Patients with respiratory diseases or a history of sleep apnea, and the elderly should also take this medication with caution. This medication may rarely cause skin rashes or allergic reactions, so if any skin abnormalities occur, use should be discontinued immediately. Fatigue or jaundice may appear due to liver dysfunction, so careful monitoring is necessary. Symptoms of bleeding may occur due to blood disorders; therefore, the medication should be stopped if any unusual symptoms arise. Mental symptoms such as drowsiness, dizziness, headache, and anxiety may occur, so driving or operating hazardous machinery should be avoided. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as dry mouth, nausea, vomiting, and constipation may occur. Symptoms like irregular heartbeats or urinary difficulties may develop rarely. While taking this medication, drowsiness may occur, so it is safe not to drive or operate machinery. Caution is advised when this drug is taken with other central nervous system depressants or alcohol, as the effect may be intensified. It is particularly recommended not to take it with drugs that can affect the heart. Combining with medications that may worsen glaucoma or constipation should also be avoided. Pregnant women or women who may become pregnant should not take this medication, and breastfeeding mothers should also avoid it and discontinue nursing. Safety in pediatric patients has not been established, particularly in infants under 2 years of age, where use should be avoided.

Urticaria, angioedema, chest pain, pallor, cold extremities, sweating, shortness of breath (shock, anaphylaxis), jaundice, systemic fatigue, elevated ALT/AST, cholestasis, nosebleed, gum bleeding, cyanosis (hemorrhagic symptoms), Torsades de Pointes.
