Treatment of respiratory, urinary tract, skin, and soft tissue infections
This medication is used to treat upper respiratory infections, lower respiratory infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Specifically, it is effective for upper respiratory infections such as pharyngitis and tonsillitis, otitis media, acute sinusitis, bacterial infections of acute and chronic bronchitis, uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, post-surgical abscesses, and urinary tract infections including cystitis. It is used appropriately based on sensitivity testing for the causative organisms of each infection, especially caution is needed with beta-lactamase producing organisms. This medication helps improve infections caused by various bacteria.
○ Adults (13 years and older) 1) For pharyngitis and tonsillitis among upper respiratory tract infections, administer cefprozil 500mg (potency) every 24 hours; for acute sinusitis, administer 250mg (potency) or 500mg (potency) every 12 hours (an increased dose is required for moderate or more severe infections). 2) For bacterial superinfection of acute bronchitis or bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis among lower respiratory tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug every 12 hours. 3) For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 250mg (potency) of this drug every 12 hours [or 500mg (potency) every 24 hours], or administer 500mg (potency) every 12 hours according to symptoms. 4) For uncomplicated urinary tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug every 24 hours. <Duration of administration> Administration is generally for about 10 days; however, for pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A beta-hemolytic), administer for 10 days or longer. For uncomplicated cystitis, administer for about 7 days. ○ Patients with renal impairment 1) For a creatinine clearance of 30~120mL/min, administer according to the standard dosage regimen above. 2) For a creatinine clearance of 29mL/min or less, administer 50% of the standard dose at the standard dosing interval. However, some of this drug is removed by hemodialysis, so administer it after hemodialysis is completed. After reconstitution, store refrigerated and use within 14 days (syrup only).
○ Children (2~12 years) 1) For pharyngitis and tonsillitis among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 7.5mg (potency) per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. 2) For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 20mg (potency) per Kg of body weight every 24 hours. ○ Infants and young children (6 months~12 years) For otitis media among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 15mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours; for acute sinusitis, administer 7.5mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. However, for moderate or more severe infections requiring a dose increase, administer 15mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours.
This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic and should not be administered to certain patients. It must not be used in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporins. Caution should be exercised when administering to patients who have had allergic reactions to penicillin or other drugs, as cross-reactivity may occur between drugs of similar classes. In severe cases or in patients with reduced kidney function, renal function should be evaluated before administration and monitored carefully during use. Dosage may need to be reduced in patients with impaired kidney function. Patients with gastrointestinal disorders, especially those with a history of colitis, should also be monitored closely. This medication may cause gastrointestinal side effects such as diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain. Abnormal liver function has also been reported, and liver enzymes may elevate, thus monitoring liver health is advised. Allergic reactions such as rashes or urticaria may occur, particularly more frequently in children. These symptoms typically appear within a few days of starting the medication and usually resolve within 2-3 days after discontinuation. Central nervous system symptoms such as dizziness, headache, insomnia, and drowsiness have been reported rarely; in patients with reduced kidney function, seizures may occur, so caution is required. Blood tests may show decreased white blood cell counts, increased eosinophils, and elevated kidney function markers, so regular testing is necessary. This drug may increase renal toxicity when used in conjunction with other cephalosporin antibiotics, aminoglycoside antibiotics, or diuretics, so caution is needed during co-administration. It should be used in pregnant women only if absolutely necessary, and care should be taken when giving it to nursing mothers considering potential effects on the infant. Safety in infants under 6 months has not been established, so it is advisable not to use it in this age group. Elderly patients may have diminished renal function, so dosages may need adjustment. During treatment with this medication, there is a risk of severe gastrointestinal diseases like pseudomembranous colitis; if diarrhea persists, immediate consultation with healthcare professionals is required. In cases of overdose, since it is excreted through the kidneys, renal function impairment may necessitate dialysis. This drug can affect the results of certain clinical tests, so it is important to inform the healthcare provider about its use before lab testing. Finally, if any allergic reactions or unusual symptoms occur while using this medication, treatment should be discontinued immediately, and healthcare providers should be notified.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
