This medication is effective against various bacteria and is used for respiratory infections excluding acute bronchitis, as well as community-acquired pneumonia. Additionally, it is applicable for throat and ear infections including pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, otitis externa, and chronic cholesteatomatous otitis media (except for chronic otitis media prior to surgery). It is also effective for urinary tract infections such as bacterial prostatitis, acute uncomplicated cystitis, acute pyelonephritis, and complicated urinary tract infections. Furthermore, it can be used for gonococcal cervicitis and gonococcal urethritis, gastrointestinal infections, biliary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and wound treatment. This drug is also used for bone and joint infections, gynecological infections (excluding vaginal infections), peritonitis, fistula infections, sebaceous cysts, otitis media cholesteatomatosa, acute bacterial rhinosinusitis, chronic bronchitis, and acute bacteremia exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, as well as acute cystitis and otitis media. However, as a fluoroquinolone, it may have serious adverse reactions and is recommended for use only when no other treatment options are available for specific conditions.

Precautions

This medication may cause serious side effects such as tendonitis or tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system effects. If such symptoms occur, discontinue use immediately and consult a healthcare professional. Patients with myasthenia gravis are advised not to take this medication as it may worsen symptoms. This drug should be used restrictedly for specific infections and only when no alternative treatment is available. Caution is especially needed for elderly patients, those with decreased kidney function, or those with central nervous system disorders. Pregnant or breastfeeding women, children under 18 years of age, patients with epilepsy, and those with hypersensitivity to this drug should not take it. This medication may interact with several other drugs, so be sure to inform your healthcare provider of any other medications being taken. During treatment, care should be taken to avoid excessive exposure to sunlight or artificial UV light, and if a rash or itching occurs, the medication should be discontinued immediately. This drug may cause changes in blood sugar levels, so diabetic patients should monitor their blood sugar frequently. Use caution while driving or operating machinery as dizziness or drowsiness may occur. In case of overdose, kidney function may be compromised, and immediate emergency treatment is required. This drug has not been established as safe for use in children or growing adolescents.
