Treatment of skin and nail fungus
This medication is effective for treating dermatophytosis caused by dermatophyte fungi such as athlete's foot, tinea corporis, and tinea cruris in adults. It is also used for treating tinea capitis in children. It helps improve the symptoms of fungal infections of the skin and nails.
As terbinafine, administer 125 mg twice daily or 250 mg once daily. The administration period varies by condition: 1) Dermatophytosis Athlete's foot (interdigital type, plantar type/moccasin type): 2 to 6 weeks Tinea corporis: 2 to 4 weeks Tinea cruris: 2 to 4 weeks 2) Nail fungus Usually administered for 6 weeks to 3 months. If the infection is in a fingernail or relatively small toe, or if the patient is young, the treatment period may be reduced to under 3 months. The treatment period for toenail infections is usually sufficient at 3 months, but in some patients, it may take 6 months or longer. If the patient has slow toenail growth, the treatment period may be extended.
Administer to children over 2 years old. Tinea capitis: 4 weeks 1) Weight under 20 kg (under 5 years old): 62.5 mg once daily. 2) Weight 20–40 kg (5 to 12 years old):
This drug is not recommended for patients with chronic liver disease or active liver disease. Before administration, liver function tests and a history of liver disease must be confirmed. If symptoms suggestive of liver dysfunction occur, inform your doctor immediately and ensure the condition is checked with a liver function test. This drug may affect liver function, so regular liver function tests should be performed within 4 to 6 weeks after starting treatment. If liver function tests show an increase, immediately stop taking the medication. Patients with blood disorders or severe renal failure, infants under 2 years old, and breastfeeding mothers should not take this drug. Patients with lactose intolerance or certain genetic disorders should avoid this drug due to the lactose content. Caution is advised for the elderly, patients with decreased renal function, and children weighing less than 20 kg. This drug may rarely cause severe skin reactions or liver failure; if such symptoms occur, immediately discontinue use and consult your doctor. Symptoms such as dizziness may occur when driving or operating machinery, so caution is needed. Interactions may occur with other medications, so inform your doctor or pharmacist about any other medications you are taking. Pregnant women or those who may become pregnant should carefully evaluate the benefits and risks before using this medication, and breastfeeding women are advised to discontinue breastfeeding. In the case of overdose, symptoms such as headache, nausea, dizziness may occur, and immediate medical attention should be sought. Keep this medication out of the reach of children and store it at room temperature away from direct sunlight.
