Treatment of upper and lower respiratory tract infections, uncomplicated urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections
This medication is used for upper respiratory tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections. Specifically, it is effective for treating upper respiratory tract infections like pharyngitis and tonsillitis, otitis media, acute sinusitis, and secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis, exacerbation of chronic bronchitis symptoms, uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, and uncomplicated urinary tract infections including cystitis. The susceptibility should be confirmed according to the causative bacteria, and caution is needed for treating infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria. Overall, it is used for treating various bacterial infections, aiding in symptom improvement and infection treatment.
Adults (13 years and older) 1) For pharyngitis and tonsillitis among upper respiratory tract infections, administer cefprozil 500mg (potency) every 24 hours; for acute sinusitis, administer 250mg (potency) or 500mg (potency) every 12 hours (dose increase is needed for moderate or more severe infections). 2) For bacterial superinfection of acute bronchitis or bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis among lower respiratory tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug every 12 hours. 3) For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 250mg (potency) of this drug every 12 hours [or 500mg (potency) every 24 hours], or administer 500mg (potency) every 12 hours depending on the symptoms. 4) For uncomplicated urinary tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug every 24 hours. <Duration of administration> Treatment is usually administered for about 10 days; however, for pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (Group A beta-hemolytic), administer for 10 days or longer. For uncomplicated cystitis, administer for about 7 days. ○ Patients with renal impairment 1) If creatinine clearance is 30~120mL/min, administer according to the standard dosage and administration above. 2) If creatinine clearance is 29mL/min or less, administer 50% of the standard dose at the same interval as the standard regimen. However, since some of this drug is removed by hemodialysis, administer it after hemodialysis is completed. Once reconstituted, refrigerate and use within 14 days (syrup formulation only).
Children (2~12 years): For pharyngitis and tonsillitis among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 7.5mg (potency) per Kg of body weight per dose every 12 hours. Children (2~12 years): For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 20mg (potency) per Kg of body weight per dose every 24 hours. Infants and children (6 months~12 years): For otitis media among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 15mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. Infants and children (6 months~12 years): For acute sinusitis, administer 7.5mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours. However, for moderate or more severe infections requiring a dose increase, administer 15mg per Kg of body weight every 12 hours.
This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic and is used to treat specific bacterial infections. When using this medication, the aspartame content should be adjusted to below the WHO recommended level, using the minimum possible dose. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics should not take this medication. Patients with allergies to penicillin or other medications should use this drug cautiously, especially those with impaired kidney function, who may need dosage adjustments and careful monitoring. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal diseases or colitis should also use this medication with caution. Common side effects when taking this medication may include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, as well as reports of liver dysfunction, skin rashes, and allergic reactions such as urticaria. Central nervous system symptoms may rarely include dizziness, headaches, and insomnia, with caution for impaired kidney function. This medication may induce seizures; therefore, patients with kidney impairment should adjust the dosage and discontinue if seizures occur. Long-term use may lead to antibiotic resistance, thus, it's advisable to confirm susceptibility and use for the necessary minimum duration. If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use immediately; in severe cases, emergency treatment may be required. If diarrhea occurs after antibiotic administration, consider the possibility of pseudomembranous colitis and seek appropriate treatment. Caution is advised when combined with other cephalosporin antibiotics or certain diuretics as renal toxicity may increase. Use during pregnancy is only recommended if necessary, and caution should be exercised during breastfeeding due to unknown effects on the baby. For infants under 6 months, safety and efficacy have not been established, so it is advisable not to use it. Elderly patients may require dosage adjustments due to potential decreased kidney function. This medication is excreted through the kidneys; therefore, if there is an overdose in patients with reduced kidney function, removal via hemodialysis is possible. There is no risk of carcinogenicity or mutagenicity, and reproductive dysfunction was not found in animal studies.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication should be stored in a tightly closed container to prevent air or moisture ingress, and it is advisable to maintain a storage temperature between 1 degree and 30 degrees Celsius. Storing it this way will help maintain the drug's effectiveness for a longer period.
