Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, patients who have experienced severe allergic reactions or shock in the past due to this medication, those allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics, patients with infectious mononucleosis, and patients with genetic disorders that cause problems with lactose breakdown should not take this medication. Additionally, it should be used with caution in some patients. Special care is required for those with a history of allergies or hypersensitivity to penicillin antibiotics, those with a family history of asthma or skin allergies, patients with severely impaired kidney function, those who have difficulty with oral intake, the elderly, patients with a poor overall condition, and those with a history of gastrointestinal disorders. While taking this medication, there is a low risk of serious side effects occurring. For instance, allergic reactions such as shock, skin rash, hives, and respiratory distress may occur, so if any unusual symptoms appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately and a hospital visit is necessary. Blood cell count may decrease, or liver and kidney function may be impaired, and gastrointestinal disturbances such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, and in severe cases, colitis may occur. Additionally, central nervous system symptoms such as dizziness, drowsiness, and headaches may occasionally appear. Severe skin reactions may appear, so the condition of the skin must be closely monitored, and symptoms of vitamin deficiency or bleeding tendency may also arise. To prevent the occurrence of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to check the susceptibility of the infectious bacteria and to use the medication for the minimum effective period necessary. To prevent allergic reactions, it is important to thoroughly review medical history, and if any allergic symptoms appear, the medication should be discontinued immediately and appropriate treatment provided. Regular blood tests and checks on kidney and liver function should be done during long-term use. In patients with reduced kidney function, dose adjustments are necessary, as there may be a risk of seizures. Care is also needed when taking this medication with other drugs. Special caution is required when combined with drugs that may stress the kidneys or diuretics, as there is a risk of worsening kidney function. Additionally, taking probenecid may increase the concentration of this medication in the body. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should use this medication only when the benefit outweighs the risk, as its safety has not been established. Caution is also required during breastfeeding. Elderly individuals may experience a higher prevalence of side effects due to declining body functions, so dosing and administration intervals should be carefully adjusted. This medication may affect certain clinical test results, so it is important to inform healthcare providers during tests. Finally, it has been reported that photosensitivity reactions may rarely occur, so caution is needed to avoid sun exposure.
