Treatment of respiratory infections (such as otitis media), urinary tract infections, and skin and soft tissue infections
This medication is primarily used for upper and lower respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, as well as uncomplicated urinary tract infections. It is effective for treating pharyngitis, tonsillitis, otitis media, and acute sinusitis in upper respiratory tract infections, especially acting against pathogens such as Streptococcus pyogenes, Streptococcus pneumoniae, and Influenza virus. In lower respiratory tract infections, it is used for secondary bacterial infections of acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis. In skin and soft tissue infections, it helps with simple infections and abscesses caused by Staphylococcus and Streptococcus. Additionally, it can effectively act on uncomplicated urinary tract infections. It is used to improve various bacterial infections.
○ Adults (13 years and older) 1) For pharyngitis and tonsillitis among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of cefprozil per dose every 24 hours; for acute sinusitis, administer 250mg (potency) or 500mg (potency) every 12 hours (increase the dose for moderate or more severe infections as needed). 2) For bacterial superinfection of acute bronchitis or bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis among lower respiratory tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug per dose every 12 hours. 3) For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 250mg (potency) of this drug every 12 hours [or 500mg (potency) every 24 hours], or 500mg (potency) every 12 hours according to symptoms. 4) For uncomplicated urinary tract infections, administer 500mg (potency) of this drug every 24 hours. <Duration of administration> Administration is generally for about 10 days; however, for pharyngitis/tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes (group A beta-hemolytic), administer for at least 10 days. For uncomplicated cystitis, administer for about 7 days. ○ Patients with renal impairment 1) If creatinine clearance is 30~120mL/min, administer according to the standard dosage and regimen above. 2) If creatinine clearance is 29mL/min or less, administer 50% of the standard dose at the standard dosing interval. However, some of this drug is removed by hemodialysis, so administer it after hemodialysis is completed. Once reconstituted, refrigerate and use within 14 days (syrup only).
○ Children (2~12 years): For pharyngitis and tonsillitis among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 7.5mg (potency)/kg per dose every 12 hours. ○ Children (2~12 years): For uncomplicated skin and soft tissue infections, administer 20mg (potency)/kg per dose every 24 hours. ○ Infants and children (6 months~12 years): For otitis media among upper respiratory tract infections, administer 15mg/kg every 12 hours. ○ Infants and children (6 months~12 years): For acute sinusitis, administer 7.5mg/kg every 12 hours. ○ Infants and children (6 months~12 years): For moderate or more severe infections requiring a dose increase, administer 15mg/kg every 12 hours.
This medication is a cephalosporin antibiotic and should not be administered to patients with a history of specific allergies. Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics or genetic issues such as lactose intolerance, Lapp lactase deficiency, or glucose-galactose malabsorption should not use this medication. Patients with a history of allergies to penicillin or other medications should use this medication cautiously, and particularly those with decreased kidney function or severe illness must undergo renal function tests before administration. Renal impairment can raise blood concentration of this medication, necessitating dose adjustment. Patients with gastrointestinal conditions, especially a history of colitis, require caution. This medication may cause gastrointestinal side effects like diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, and abdominal pain, and hypersensitivity reactions such as liver function abnormalities, rash, and urticaria have been reported. Symptoms of the central nervous system like dizziness, headache, and drowsiness may rarely occur. Like other cephalosporin antibiotics, this medication can cause severe allergic reactions, blood disorders, renal function deterioration, and should be consulted with medical personnel immediately if abnormal symptoms arise. Long-term use of this medication can lead to antibiotic resistance; hence it should be used for the necessary duration, and if a recurrent infection occurs, appropriate measures should be taken. If an allergic reaction occurs, discontinue use; in severe cases, emergency treatment may be necessary. Diarrhea following antibiotic use may indicate a possibility of pseudomembranous colitis, and if symptoms are severe, professional treatment is required. Patients with renal impairment may experience seizures due to this medication, so dose adjustments are needed, and if seizures occur, administration should be stopped immediately. Co-administration with other antibiotics or diuretics may increase nephrotoxicity, necessitating caution when used together. During pregnancy, it should only be used when absolutely necessary, and during breastfeeding, caution is advised as the effects on infants are unclear. It is advisable not to use this medication in infants under 6 months of age as safety has not been confirmed. Elderly patients may require dose adjustments due to potential renal function deterioration. This medication may affect certain clinical test results, so it is important to inform medical personnel during tests. In instances of overdose, this medication is excreted via the kidneys, so blood dialysis can remove the drug in patients with impaired renal function. This medication is not known to be carcinogenic or induce genetic abnormalities, and no reproductive dysfunction has been observed in animal studies.
Not everyone experiences these, and they can vary from person to person.
This medication may be sensitive to air or moisture, thus it must be stored in a tightly sealed container. Moreover, it is best stored at room temperature between 1°C and 30°C. Proper storage helps maintain the medication’s effectiveness over time.
