The total daily dose of this drug should be divided into 3 doses. The safety and efficacy of treatment for neuropathic pain for more than 5 months have not been evaluated. Frailty: In frail patients with low body weight or patients after transplant surgery, increase the dose of this drug in 100 mg increments. Older adults: Dose adjustment may be necessary due to age-related decline in renal function (see table). Dosage in patients with renal impairment: ≥80 mL/min: 900 ~ 2,400 mg/day 50 - 79 mL/min: 600 ~ 1,800 mg/day 30 - 49 mL/min: 300 ~ 900 mg/day 15 - 29 mL/min: 150b~600 mg/day < 15 mL/min: 150b~300 mg/day a: The total daily dose should be divided into 3 doses. b: Administer 3 × 100 mg every 2 days. In patients with creatinine clearance below 15 mL/min, the dose should be reduced in proportion to creatinine clearance. Dosage in patients receiving hemodialysis Initial dose: 300~400 mg of gabapentin is recommended. Maintenance dose: Administer 200~300 mg of gabapentin after 4 hours of hemodialysis. Do not administer this drug on days when hemodialysis is not performed.

Precautions

This medication is used as an antiepileptic to control seizures. During treatment, there may be mental health changes such as suicidal thoughts or behaviors and depression, so regular consultations with a physician and careful observation of symptoms are necessary. Abruptly stopping the medication may worsen seizures, so it should be discontinued gradually under a doctor's guidance. This medication may cause serious pancreatic diseases such as pancreatitis or hemorrhagic pancreatitis, so if persistent abdominal pain or vomiting occurs, inform a doctor immediately. When administered to children aged 3 to 12 years, there may be psychiatric reactions such as emotional instability, hostility, decreased concentration, and hyperactivity, so caution is needed. Co-administration with central nervous system depressants, including opioids, may result in drowsiness, respiratory depression, and comatose states, requiring strict medical supervision during combination therapy. Patients with impaired kidney function must have their drug dosage adjusted, and elderly patients and those with a history of mental illness should be treated cautiously. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should consult a physician before taking this medication due to risk to the fetus, and it should be used cautiously if breastfeeding. Dizziness, drowsiness, and coordination disorders may occur, so it is advisable to avoid driving or operating hazardous machinery until acclimated to the medication. This medication may cause various side effects such as weight gain, visual disturbances, skin rashes, and allergic reactions, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to healthcare providers immediately. In the event of overdose, central nervous system depressant symptoms may occur, but generally, supportive care leads to recovery. This medication should be stored out of reach of children and should be kept in its original container for safety.
