Treatment of urinary tract infections and gynecological infections (such as intrauterine infections)
This medication is effective against various strains including Staphylococcus aureus, coagulase-negative staphylococci, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Escherichia coli. It is used to treat urinary tract infections, cholangitis, intrauterine infections, and various gynecological infections. Additionally, it helps in the treatment of skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, and prevention of infections after surgical procedures. Due to its effectiveness against various infections, it is a very useful drug for infection treatment. It is used to improve the infection according to the patient's symptoms.
For infections caused by gram-positive bacteria, administer 1 to 2g (potency) of Cefepime Sodium divided into 2 to 3 intravenous doses per day. For infections caused by gram-negative bacteria, administer 3 to 4g (potency) divided into 2 to 3 doses per day. For life-threatening infections and infections caused by moderately susceptible organisms, the dosage may be increased up to 6g (potency) per day. When preparing the injection solution, dissolve 1g (potency) in 5mL of sterile water and inject slowly over 2 to 3 minutes.
This drug should not be used in patients allergic to cephalosporin antibiotics. Caution is advised in premature infants and newborns. It should be used with caution in pregnant women during the first 3 months and in patients with impaired kidney and liver function. Careful administration is required in patients with hemophilia or thrombocytopenia, and patients with gastrointestinal ulcers. Patients who find oral administration difficult or who are on parenteral nutrition, elderly patients, and patients in poor general condition may show signs of vitamin K deficiency and should be closely monitored. Mild adverse reactions such as headache, dizziness, or nausea may occur when using this drug, and rarely, skin rashes or fever and severe allergic reactions may occur. If any abnormal symptoms appear, administration should be stopped immediately and appropriate treatment should be sought. Liver function test values may temporarily increase, and transient leukopenia may occur. If there are severe colitis symptoms such as pseudomembranous colitis, abdominal pain, or frequent diarrhea, administration should be discontinued. If symptoms such as dyspnea, fever, or cough occur, the possibility of interstitial pneumonia or pulmonary complications necessitates stopping this drug and seeking specialized treatment. Dysbiosis such as stomatitis or candidiasis may occur rarely. Vitamin K or vitamin B deficiency symptoms may appear, so nutritional status should be well managed. To prevent the emergence of resistant bacteria, it is important to administer for the minimum period necessary based on susceptibility testing results. To prevent severe allergic reactions, it is advisable to thoroughly check the patient’s condition and perform skin reaction tests. After administration, patients should be closely monitored in a stable condition. Resistance to first-generation cephalosporins is increasing, so susceptibility test results should be referenced. Caution is needed when used in combination with aminoglycoside antibiotics or certain diuretics as it may affect kidney function. When used in combination with high-dose anticoagulants, blood coagulation status should be closely monitored. Breastfeeding women should use this medication cautiously as a small amount may be passed to the infant through breast milk. Finally, this drug should not be mixed and injected with aminoglycosides in the same syringe.
