Treatment of otitis media, respiratory, and urinary tract infections
This medication is effective against various bacteria including Streptococcus pneumoniae, influenza bacillus, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus pyogenes, Escherichia coli, Proteus mirabilis, Klebsiella, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and more. Major indications include respiratory infections such as otitis media, pneumonia, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, and bronchitis, and is also used for urinary tract infections like pyelonephritis, cystitis, and gonococcal urethritis. Additionally, it helps treat skin and soft tissue infections like abscesses, boils, folliculitis, cellulitis, infectious gangrene, subcutaneous abscesses, injured skin, and wound infections. This medication effectively improves bacterial infections in various areas, aiding in rapid recovery.
As cefaclor, administer 250 mg per dose orally every 8 hours. In case of severe infections (such as pneumonia) and low-sensitivity infections, the dose may be doubled. For acute gonococcal urethritis, co-administer 3 g of this drug with 1 g of probenecid as a single dose.
Administer 20 mg per kg of body weight daily, divided every 8 hours. In case of severe infections, otitis media, and low-sensitivity infections, 40 mg per kg of body weight may be administered daily, with a maximum dosage of
This drug works by binding to specific proteins and disrupting bacterial cell wall synthesis, thereby killing bacteria. It should not be administered to patients who have experienced shock from this drug or have had allergic reactions to this drug or cephalosporin antibiotics. Patients with allergies to penicillin or those with a family history of allergies such as asthma, skin rashes, or hives should use it cautiously. Patients with very poor kidney function or elderly individuals who have difficulty swallowing or are malnourished may show signs of vitamin K deficiency, requiring careful observation. Patients with a history of gastrointestinal disease, especially colitis, should also be cautious when using this medication, and those allergic to the color additive Yellow No. 5 require careful administration. Rarely, shock or severe allergic reactions may occur, so if symptoms present, immediately stop taking the medication and seek appropriate treatment. Serious reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome or toxic epidermal necrolysis can occur, hence skin conditions should be closely monitored. Blood abnormalities may occur, thus if symptoms such as agranulocytosis, anemia, or thrombocytopenia arise, consult medical personnel immediately. There may be rare occurrences of liver dysfunction or kidney impairment, necessitating regular monitoring and testing. Gastrointestinal side effects such as severe colitis, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting may occur, so report these symptoms right away. Respiratory symptoms such as interstitial pneumonia or eosinophilic lung infiltration may occur, so caution is warranted if shortness of breath or severe cough worsens. Central nervous system symptoms such as anxiety, restlessness, dizziness, drowsiness, and hallucinations can appear rarely. Dysbiosis such as stomatitis or candidiasis can occur, so the condition of the mouth should be monitored closely. There is a rare risk of bleeding tendency due to vitamin K deficiency or vitamin B complex deficiency symptoms, so caution is advised. To prevent the development of resistant bacteria, it is advisable to conduct susceptibility testing and use this drug only for the minimum necessary duration. As with other antibiotics, infections caused by resistant strains may occur, therefore appropriate treatment should be selected in such cases. Coadministration with probenecid may increase blood levels, and caution should be exercised when used with nephrotoxic drugs or diuretics as renal impairment risk may increase. Using this drug alongside anticoagulants may heighten bleeding risk, thus regular monitoring of blood coagulation levels is necessary, with dose adjustments as needed. The contraceptive effect of oral contraceptives may be diminished when taken with this drug; therefore, an additional method of contraception is recommended. Care should be taken as concurrent use with certain antibiotics could reduce the bactericidal effect of this drug. The safety of this drug during pregnancy has not been established, hence it should only be used if the therapeutic benefits outweigh the risks. Women who are breastfeeding should use this drug cautiously as it may be excreted in breast milk in small amounts, observing the infant's condition closely. It is advisable not to use this medication in infants under 1 month of age as its safety and effectiveness have not been established. Elderly patients may exhibit side effects more readily due to diminished physiological functions, and there is a risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency; thus dosage and intervals should be adjusted and monitored carefully. During testing, false-positive reactions may appear in urinalysis, and direct Coombs tests may yield positive results; thus careful interpretation of test results is necessary.
