Improvement of asthma symptoms by the combination of a bronchodilator and inhaled corticosteroid.
The combined administration of a bronchodilator and inhaled corticosteroid is very effective in the treatment of asthma. These two medications work synergistically to reduce airway inflammation and dilate the bronchial tubes, aiding in efficient breathing. Combination therapy reduces the frequency and severity of asthma symptoms, prevents attacks, and improves lung function. It also contributes to better long-term asthma control, enhancing the quality of life for patients. This treatment method provides a stable breathing environment for asthma patients, effectively managing symptoms.
Adults and children over 12 years of age should dose according to the severity of the condition with the following administration: Salmeterol 25 μg + Fluticasone Propionate 50 μg, 2 times a day, 2 puffs or Salmeterol 25 μg + Fluticasone Propionate 125 μg, 2 times a day, 2 puffs or Salmeterol 25 μg + Fluticasone Propionate 250 μg, 2 times a day, 2 puffs.

It should not be administered to patients who are allergic to this medication or have heart arrhythmias, untreated lung infections, or severe bronchiectasis. Also, it is not suitable for emergency treatment of asthma. Patients with a history of cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, seizure disorders, pulmonary tuberculosis, or hypokalemia need special precautions when using this medication. Especially, patients with low potassium levels or suspected infections in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease should consult their physician. This medication may cause coughing, wheezing, or bronchospasm after inhalation, so if these symptoms occur, use should be stopped immediately, and medical assessment should be sought. Various side effects such as blood sugar changes, palpitations, headache, nausea, myalgia, skin rash, oral candidiasis, etc., may occur depending on the medication's components, and any abnormal symptoms should be reported. It is advisable to rinse the mouth with water after inhalation to prevent oral infections. This medication is gradually titrated in dosage for asthma treatment based on the patient's symptoms and lung function tests. In the event of overdose, symptoms like heart anomalies, blood sugar changes, seizures may occur; therefore, the prescribed dosage must be adhered to, and immediate consultation with healthcare professionals should be sought if symptoms are severe. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, use should be discussed with a doctor, and safety has not been established for children under 12 years of age. It is important to learn the proper technique for using the inhaler and to maintain cleanliness of the mouthpiece, washing it regularly.
