Treatment and prevention of recurrence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (including erosive reflux esophagitis), treatment and prevention of recurrence of benign peptic ulcers associated with Helicobacter pylori, relief of gastrointestinal symptoms related to nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and prevention of ulcer.
This medication is used to treat gastroesophageal reflux disease and erosive reflux esophagitis, and for long-term maintenance therapy to prevent relapse in patients with esophagitis. It is also included in combination antibiotic therapy for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori, effective for the treatment and prevention of relapse of duodenal ulcers and peptic ulcers. Additionally, it helps in the treatment and prevention of upper gastrointestinal symptoms or ulcers due to the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. It is also used for the treatment of Zollinger-Ellison syndrome and for maintenance therapy to prevent rebleeding after intravenous administration. Overall, it is used for the treatment and prevention of various gastrointestinal-related diseases.
This medication should be swallowed with liquid such as water and should not be chewed or crushed. Patients who find it difficult to swallow the tablet can dissolve it in half a cup of non-carbonated water. Other beverages should not be used as they may dissolve the enteric coating. Stir until dissolved and drink immediately or within 30 minutes without chewing, rinsing the cup with half a cup of non-carbonated water afterward. Do not chew or crush the floating particles during ingestion.
Adolescents aged 12 years and older - Treatment of erosive reflux esophagitis: 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks; if symptoms persist or are not resolved, an additional 4 weeks of treatment. - Symptomatic treatment for gastroesophageal reflux disease without esophagitis.
This medication should not be administered to certain patients. Patients who have had allergies or hypersensitivity to this drug, its components, or similar class of medications should not use it. Additionally, caution is required when taken with certain antibiotics or antiviral drugs due to the risk of side effects or interactions. Women who are breastfeeding or patients with a history of myocardial infarction should also avoid using this medication. This medication may cause various side effects. Gastrointestinal symptoms such as headache, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting are commonly reported, while rarely, blood-related abnormalities, hypersensitivity reactions, or hypomagnesemia may occur. Mental changes, skin rashes, hair loss, muscle pain may also appear, so consult a medical professional immediately if abnormal symptoms occur. Regular check-ups are required for long-term use. Especially if taken for over a year, the risk of hypomagnesemia or fractures may increase, so constant monitoring is necessary. This medication suppresses gastric acid secretion, which may promote bacterial growth in the gastrointestinal tract, thus slightly increasing the risk of gastrointestinal infections. If diarrhea persists or worsens, it is essential to consult a doctor. Moreover, this medication can interact with several other drugs, so inform healthcare professionals if you are taking other medications. Care should be taken when used with drugs affecting blood coagulation, antiviral drugs, or specific antibiotics. Safety data regarding use during pregnancy is limited, so if pregnant or planning to become pregnant, consult a healthcare professional before use, and its use is not recommended during breastfeeding. In case of overdose, since there is no specific antidote, appropriate treatment should be received according to the symptoms, and it should be stored out of reach of children. Transferring to another container may pose a risk of accidents and quality degradation.
Hives, severe swelling (angioedema), chest tightness, difficulty breathing, cold sweat, pallor, anaphylaxis reaction/shock, severe rash with high fever, blisters, skin peeling, pain in mouth/eyes mucosa, erythema multiforme, systemic lupus erythematosus, Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis (Lyell's syndrome), acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis, drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS syndrome), shortness of breath.
