Preventive treatment of severe chronic asthma
This medication is used for the preventive treatment of severe chronic asthma in adults and adolescents over the age of 16, particularly suitable for patients requiring high-dose inhaled or oral corticosteroids. It helps effectively prevent asthma symptoms and improve quality of life.
Adults and adolescents over 16 years: The initial recommended dose is 2 mg once, twice a day. Once symptoms are controlled, the dose should be adjusted or reduced to the minimum effective dose based on individual patient response.
This medication should not be used in specific patients. For instance, it should not be administered to those allergic to this drug or its components, or those in a very severe state of asthma, or patients with moderate to severe bronchiectasis. Care should be taken when using this drug in patients with pulmonary tuberculosis or pulmonary fungal infections, and patients experiencing sudden bronchoconstriction during its use also require caution. When using this drug, fungal infections of the mouth and throat may occur, so it is advisable to rinse the mouth thoroughly with water after inhalation. Rarely, severe allergic reactions such as skin allergies, facial swelling, and difficulty breathing may occur, so it is vital to consult medical staff immediately if abnormal symptoms appear. Long-term high-dose use may lead to systemic side effects such as adrenal insufficiency, growth delay, cataracts, glaucoma, and increased blood sugar, thus regular monitoring of conditions is necessary. If asthma symptoms suddenly worsen or the use of a short-acting bronchodilator increases, an immediate evaluation by a doctor is required, as this drug is not for treating acute asthma attacks and separate treatment is necessary for acute symptoms. During pregnancy, this drug should only be used when its benefits outweigh the risks to the fetus, and in breastfeeding cases, it should be administered carefully with consideration to potential impacts on the newborn. In pediatric patients, growth should be monitored periodically, and dosage should be adjusted as necessary. This drug should not be suddenly discontinued, particularly in patients transitioning from oral steroids, as careful monitoring of adrenal function is required. Overdose may lead to temporary adrenal suppression, but most recover naturally, so it's essential to continue treatment at the appropriate dosage. Patients should strictly adhere to the nebulizer usage instructions, mix the contents well before use, and if using a face mask, apply sunscreen to protect the skin or wash the face thoroughly after use. Store in a tightly closed container, away from air and moisture, in a cool, dark place below 30 degrees Celsius, and ensure it does not freeze. Additionally, the risk of side effects may increase when used with specific medications, so it is important to consult medical staff, especially when used in conjunction with drugs like ritonavir. Lastly, infection with chickenpox or measles during the use of this drug can lead to serious consequences, so vaccination status should be confirmed, and if there is a risk of infection, prompt medical attention should be sought.
