Treatment of respiratory and genitourinary infections, prevention of infections before and after surgery
This medication is effective against various bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Influenza bacillus, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Major indications include respiratory infections such as pneumonia and bronchitis, as well as ENT infections. It is also used to treat genitourinary infections such as kidney and urinary tract infections and gonorrhea. It helps prevent infections before and after surgeries, including sepsis. It can also apply to gastrointestinal infections such as bone and joint infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and peritonitis. It is useful for treating infections and meningitis in immunocompromised patients, improving various infections.
Adults and children over 12 years old are administered 1–2g (usage rate) of ceftriaxone once daily via intravenous or intramuscular injection. In cases of severe illness or infections caused by moderately susceptible pathogens, the dosage can be increased to up to 4g (usage rate) once daily. For gonorrhea treatment, a single intramuscular injection of 250mg (usage rate) is recommended. To prevent infections before and after surgery, a single dose of 1–2g (usage rate) should be given 30–90 minutes before surgery.
For neonates (within 14 days of birth), administer 20–50mg (usage rate) per kg of body weight once daily, not exceeding 50mg (usage rate) per kg. For infants and children (from 15 days to 12 years old), administer 20–80mg (usage rate) per kg of body weight once daily.
This medication should not be mixed with or administered simultaneously with solutions or drugs containing calcium. In particular, it should never be administered to neonates as it may cause precipitation when combined with calcium. Patients with allergies to this medication or have had hypersensitivity reactions to cephalosporins or penicillins should not use it. Also, caution should be exercised when administering this medication to those allergic to lidocaine, and it must not be administered intravenously if it contains lidocaine. Neonates with prematurity, jaundice, hypoalbuminemia, or acidosis should not be given this medication as it poses a risk of bilirubin encephalopathy. Patients with a history of allergic reactions or hypersensitivity, severe renal impairment, the elderly, and those in poor general condition should be cautiously administered, and dose adjustment or vitamin K supplementation may be necessary. Common side effects include eosinophilia, blood cell reduction, diarrhea, rash, liver enzyme elevation, headache, dizziness, bronchospasm, loose stools, nausea, vomiting, pruritus, hematuria, diabetes, phlebitis, injection site pain, fever, chills, increased blood creatinine, stomatitis, candidiasis, vitamin K deficiency symptoms, vitamin B complex deficiency symptoms, ventricular extrasystole, sweating, flushing, palpitations, nosebleeds, hypotension, and gastrointestinal symptoms (pancreatitis, vomiting, etc.). Rare but serious allergic reactions, pseudomembranous colitis, interstitial pneumonia, severe skin reactions, and kidney damage may occur, so any unusual symptoms should be reported to medical personnel immediately. During treatment, it is important to regularly monitor liver and kidney functions, as well as conduct blood tests. This medication may have interactions with other specific antibiotics or drugs, leading to renal toxicity or effectiveness reduction, so it must be discussed with medical personnel. In cases of pregnancy or breastfeeding, as the safety of this medication has not been fully established, it should only be used when the benefits outweigh the risks, and caution should be taken when administering during breastfeeding. It is safe not to administer this medication to neonates and premature infants due to the risk of bilirubin encephalopathy. Elderly patients may have a higher risk of side effects due to decreased physical function, so the dosage and administration intervals should be adjusted and closely monitored. This medication can cause venous pain or inflammation upon intravenous injection; therefore, it should be injected slowly, and the injection site should be monitored frequently. The prepared solution should be used as soon as possible, and when stored, it is safe to use within 6 hours at room temperature and within 24 hours when refrigerated.
