This medication can rarely cause serious skin reactions such as Stevens-Johnson syndrome, toxic epidermal necrolysis, and acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis; therefore, if symptoms such as skin blistering or mucosal lesions occur, use should be discontinued immediately. This drug should not be used in patients with hypersensitivity to macrolide antibiotics or those taking specific medications (terfenadine, astemizole, cisapride, pimozide, ergot alkaloids, mizolastine). It should be used cautiously in patients with liver dysfunction or the elderly, and when used with other antibiotics, care must be taken regarding resistance or side effects. This drug can also affect heart rhythm; therefore, caution is advised for patients with congenital heart rhythm abnormalities or those taking specific antiarrhythmic medications. This drug may exacerbate symptoms of myasthenia gravis, so caution is required for patients with this condition. Adverse reactions such as allergic reactions, blood disorders, liver function abnormalities, gastrointestinal issues, severe diarrhea, respiratory difficulties, neurological abnormalities, changes in taste and smell, skin rashes, etc., may occur during treatment, and if any abnormal symptoms arise, patients should consult healthcare professionals immediately. Particularly during prolonged use, there can be a risk of resistant bacteria and superinfection; hence, the condition should be monitored closely. Periodic testing is necessary if liver function is impaired, and dosage adjustment is not required in patients with poor kidney function. The recommended dosage and duration of treatment must be adhered to in children, as overdose may affect bone growth. This drug may interfere with the metabolism of other medications in the liver, potentially increasing their blood concentrations, so caution is needed when co-administering with certain drugs. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should carefully decide on the use of this drug as it may affect the fetus; if breastfeeding, it is recommended to avoid use or discontinue breastfeeding if possible. While no dose adjustment is needed for the elderly, close observation of physical responses is essential.
