How it is given

Adult administration

For infections caused by gram-positive bacteria, administer 1 to 2 g (potency) per day, divided into 2 to 3 intravenous injections. For infections caused by gram-negative bacteria, administer 3 to 4 g (potency) per day, divided into 2 to 3 doses. For life-threatening infections and moderate-sensitivity infections, the dosage can be increased up to 6 g (potency) per day. For intravenous injection, dissolve approximately 1 g (potency) in 5 mL of sterile water for injection and administer slowly over 2 to 3 minutes.

Precautions

This medication should not be used in certain patients. For example, it should not be administered to patients who have had allergies to cephalosporin antibiotics, premature infants, or newborns. It must be used cautiously in pregnant women within the first three months of pregnancy, patients with renal or liver impairment, patients with hemophilia or thrombocytopenia, and patients with gastrointestinal ulcers. Additionally, patients who do not eat well or are on parenteral nutrition, the elderly, and those in poor overall condition should be carefully monitored for potential vitamin K deficiency symptoms. While using this medication, mild headaches, dizziness, and nausea may occur as hypersensitivity reactions. Rarely, skin rashes, fever, or severe allergic reactions can also occur, and if these symptoms arise, administration should be stopped immediately, and appropriate treatment should be sought. Liver function test results may temporarily increase, and a decrease in white blood cell count may occur. Moreover, if inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract occurs, or if abdominal pain and frequent diarrhea appear, administration should be discontinued. Respiratory symptoms such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing may indicate interstitial pneumonia, which can occur rarely, and treatment should be sought immediately if these symptoms are present. Inflammation in the mouth or candida infections may occur due to microbial imbalance. Symptoms of vitamin K or vitamin B complex deficiency may also appear, requiring careful attention. This medication should be used for the minimum duration necessary and following sensitivity testing to prevent the development of resistant bacteria. Ensure thorough monitoring of the patient’s condition for allergic reactions or shock, and continue observations in a stable state after administration. When used in conjunction with other antibiotics, renal function may be affected, so caution is advised, and when combined with drugs affecting blood coagulation, blood status should be closely monitored. Breastfeeding women should use this medication cautiously as small amounts can be transmitted through breast milk. Finally, this medication should not be mixed with other antibiotics for injection.
