Precautions

This medication contains the active ingredient cimetidine and is used to treat gastrointestinal diseases such as gastric ulcers or gastritis by suppressing gastric acid secretion. First, this drug should not be administered to patients who have had an allergic reaction or hypersensitivity to cimetidine or any other ingredient in this medication. Also, it should not be used in patients taking dofetilide as it may increase the risk of cardiac arrhythmias. Patients with impaired kidney or liver function should use it cautiously, as drug levels may rise; the dosage may need to be reduced or the interval increased. Particularly, patients receiving dialysis should take this medication after dialysis. This medication may mask symptoms of gastric cancer; it should only be administered after confirming that gastric cancer is not present. Patients with gastric or duodenal ulcers due to Helicobacter pylori infection should undergo eradication therapy. Additionally, this medication contains Yellow No. 4 and Yellow No. 5 dyes, so patients allergic to these components should use it with caution. While taking this medication, rare adverse effects such as reduced blood cell counts, hepatitis, renal dysfunction, allergic reactions, gynecomastia, increased milk secretion, increased leukorrhea, impotence, abdominal distension, constipation, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, limb tingling, drowsiness, hypochondriacal symptoms, weakness, bradycardia, tachycardia, palpitations, heart block, fatigue, generalized warmth, urinary difficulties, myalgia, arthralgia, pancreatitis, hair loss, and polymyositis may occur; if any unusual symptoms appear, consult a physician immediately. Particularly, elderly patients or those with impaired kidney function should be alert for neurological side effects, such as confusion or convulsions. This medication has many drug interactions; caution or dosage adjustments are needed when taken with anticoagulants, antidepressants, heart medications, antibiotics, etc. Women who are pregnant or may become pregnant should only use this medication when the benefits of treatment outweigh the risks, as the effects on the fetus are not fully known. Breastfeeding women are advised to avoid use as this medication is excreted in breast milk. It should be used cautiously in children and elderly patients; particularly, the elderly may need dosage adjustments due to potential increases in drug concentration from renal impairment. In the case of overdose, respiratory depression and other symptoms may occur, necessitating immediate medical attention. Finally, this medication should be stored out of the reach of children and not transferred to other containers.
