Precautions

This medication should not be used by patients who are allergic to this drug or have experienced hypersensitivity reactions to it. Additionally, patients with seizure disorders such as epilepsy, or those with a history of such conditions, should avoid this medication as it may induce seizures. This medication cannot substitute for steroid drugs used in the treatment of asthma, so patients being treated for asthma should not discontinue their treatment without consulting their physician. Breastfeeding women are advised not to take this medication, and if necessary, should discontinue breastfeeding. Patients taking oral hypoglycemic agents should be cautious as platelet counts may decrease when using this medication simultaneously. Patients with genetic issues such as fructose intolerance should avoid the syrup formulation of this medication. Patients already on other medications for asthma should not abruptly stop their existing medications when starting treatment with this medication, but should gradually taper off. During the initial days of taking this medication, symptoms such as drowsiness or dizziness may occur, so caution is advised when driving or operating machinery. Patients on long-term steroid treatment should be careful when reducing the steroid dosage with this medication, as adrenal insufficiency may occur. If there is an infection, appropriate antimicrobial therapy should be given concurrently. This medication does not prevent seizures that have already occurred, so separate treatment for seizure symptoms is required. It is advisable for patients with seasonal allergies to start taking this medication before symptoms worsen and to continue until the symptoms resolve. When discontinuing treatment, the dose should be gradually reduced over 2 to 4 weeks to minimize side effects. This medication may enhance the effects of sedatives, sleep aids, antihistamines, and alcohol, so caution is needed when used together. Safety during pregnancy has not been established; it should only be used when necessary and under medical supervision, while it is preferable to avoid its use during breastfeeding. Special attention should be paid to side effects when administering to children and the elderly, and dosage adjustments based on body weight may be necessary for children. In case of overdose, symptoms such as drowsiness, confusion, and seizures may occur, so appropriate treatment should be provided according to the symptoms. It is advisable to discontinue this medication prior to allergy testing and to store it in its original container out of the reach of children.
