Treatment of bacterial infections such as respiratory and genitourinary infections
This medication is effective against various bacteria and is used to treat respiratory infections such as acute and chronic bronchitis, lobar pneumonia, empyema, lung abscess, tonsillitis, sinusitis, and otitis media. It is also effective for urinary tract infections such as cystitis, urethritis, and pyelonephritis. It is applicable for sexually transmitted diseases like gonorrhea and pelvic infections, as well as for the treatment of boils, abscesses, soft tissue infections, and wound infections. It is also used for osteomyelitis and dental infections to quickly eliminate bacteria at the infection site. Its broad-spectrum antibacterial effect against various bacteria improves several infectious diseases.
Adults and children over 12 years of age or weighing more than 40 kg should take amoxicillin/clavulanate at 250 mg/125 mg per dose, orally three times a day at 8-hour intervals. In cases of severe and respiratory infections, the dose may be increased to 500 mg/125 mg per dose. For patients with renal impairment, dosage adjustments should be made based on creatinine clearance. - Creatinine clearance 10 to 30 mL/min: For amoxicillin 250 to 500 mg per dose should be administered orally every 12 hours. Creatinine clearance below 10 mL/min: For amoxicillin 250 mg per dose should be administered orally every 24 hours without exceeding the total maximum dose. - For children: Adjusted similarly.
Children under 12 years of age or weighing less than 40 kg should take amoxicillin/clavulanate at 250 mg/125 mg per dose, orally three times a day at 8-hour intervals. In cases of renal impairment, administer the same as adults.
This medication should not be used in patients who have had hypersensitivity to specific ingredients or beta-lactam antibiotics. Patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia should be careful as the risk of rash may increase. Patients who have experienced liver dysfunction or jaundice due to this medication or penicillin-related drugs in the past should avoid use due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with poor liver function should use this medication cautiously as their liver function may deteriorate further. Patients with moderate to severe kidney dysfunction may require dosage adjustments as the drug concentration may increase. Patients with a history of allergies or family history should be cautious about the possibility of hypersensitivity reactions. Patients who have difficulty swallowing orally, those who require parenteral nutrition, elderly patients, and those in poor health should be monitored for symptoms of vitamin K deficiency. Patients experiencing gastrointestinal symptoms such as vomiting or diarrhea may not sufficiently absorb the medication, so caution is needed. If diarrhea, abdominal pain, or blood in the stool occurs during treatment, immediate discontinuation of use and consultation with a doctor is required. Signs of liver dysfunction may occur during or after treatment, necessitating continuous observation. If hypersensitivity reactions such as skin rashes, hives, or difficulty breathing occur, the medication should be discontinued immediately, and treatment should be sought. In cases of abnormal blood tests or bleeding symptoms, medical advice must be followed. Pregnant women, especially during the first trimester, should avoid using this medication, and caution is advised during breastfeeding as side effects may occur in infants. When administering to children or the elderly, careful adjustment of the dosage and intervals is necessary, paying attention to the occurrence of side effects. In the event of overdose, gastrointestinal symptoms, kidney function abnormalities, and seizures may occur, so immediate notification to medical personnel is necessary. This medication may interact with other drugs; therefore, it is essential to inform the healthcare provider of any other medications being taken, especially when used alongside anticoagulants or certain antibiotics.
