How to take

Adult dose

Adults and children over 12 years or weighing 40 kg or more: Administer amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium as 250 mg/125 mg orally three times a day every 8 hours, and may increase to 500 mg/125 mg for severe and respiratory infections. In cases of renal impairment, adjust according to creatinine clearance.

Child dose

Children over 12 years or weighing 40 kg or more: Administer amoxicillin/clavulanate potassium as 250 mg/125 mg orally three times a day every 8 hours. In cases of renal impairment, administer in the same manner.

Precautions

This medication should not be administered to patients with hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics, including penicillin and cephalosporins. In particular, patients who have previously experienced anaphylaxis or severe skin reactions should not use this medication. Caution is required for patients with infectious mononucleosis or lymphocytic leukemia as the risk of rash increases. Patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice should avoid administration due to the risk of recurrence. Patients with liver impairment should use this medication cautiously as it may worsen liver function. Patients with moderate to severe renal impairment should adjust the dosage interval as the drug remains in the body for a longer time, increasing the risk of side effects. Those who have allergic tendencies or symptoms such as bronchial asthma or urticaria should exercise caution when using this medication. Patients who have difficulty with oral intake, the elderly, or those in poor overall health should be monitored for the risk of bleeding due to vitamin K deficiency. Patients with severe gastrointestinal diseases such as vomiting and diarrhea may have insufficient drug absorption. If symptoms such as diarrhea, abdominal pain, or blood in stool appear during use, the medication should be discontinued immediately and a doctor consulted. This medication may cause liver dysfunction, particularly in the elderly and males, so regular liver function tests are necessary. Rarely, severe skin rashes or allergic reactions may occur, so if any abnormal symptoms arise, administration must be stopped immediately. Blood tests may show abnormalities such as leukopenia, anemia, and thrombocytopenia, so periodic blood tests are recommended. Central nervous system abnormalities, including anxiety, confusion, and seizures, have been reported rarely and should be used cautiously in patients with renal impairment or those receiving high doses. Acute renal failure or nephritis may occur, so renal function should be monitored regularly, and administration should cease if any abnormalities arise. Use of antibiotics may disrupt the intestinal microbial balance, leading to candidiasis or stomatitis, so appropriate treatment should be sought if symptoms arise. Symptoms of vitamin K and vitamin B group deficiencies may appear, so nutritional status should be checked during long-term use. This medication should only be used for the minimum duration based on susceptibility testing to prevent the development of resistant bacteria. Patients with a history of severe allergic reactions to penicillin should consult with healthcare professionals before administration. Anaphylactic shock can occur rarely, so patients should be closely monitored after administration, and emergency treatment must be prepared. Serious gastrointestinal symptoms such as pseudomembranous colitis may occur, so if diarrhea or abdominal pain worsens, medication usage must be immediately discontinued. Caution is advised for those using the medication for more than 14 days, as non-sensitive organisms may proliferate. If signs of liver dysfunction appear, healthcare professionals should be notified immediately, and administration should be adjusted. This medication is primarily excreted through the kidneys; therefore, dosage adjustments may be necessary for patients with impaired renal function. It is recommended to avoid use in patients suspected of having infectious mononucleosis. If skin rashes, urticaria, or serum sickness symptoms develop, immediate discontinuation of the medication is required, followed by medical consultation. Regular tests of renal function, liver function, and hematological function should be conducted during long-term administration. Prior to administration, consultation with healthcare professionals is necessary for patients with a history of allergy to penicillin or cephalosporin drugs. Sufficient hydration should be maintained during high-dose administration to prevent kidney damage. This medication is recommended only for children over 12 years of age or weighing over 40 kg, as there is limited experience in younger age groups. The elderly may have an increased risk of adverse reactions due to decreased physiological function; therefore, dosage and administration intervals should be carefully adjusted. During administration, some clinical test results may be affected, so it is important to inform healthcare professionals during testing. Overdosage may result in symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, drowsiness, and rash, and in severe cases, emergency treatment may be necessary. Store below 25 degrees Celsius in a dry place, and in early pregnancy, it is advisable to avoid taking this medication unless there are special circumstances. During breastfeeding, there may be a risk of diarrhea or allergic reactions in the newborn, so if any abnormal symptoms occur, the medication should be discontinued.
