Treatment of bacterial infections such as respiratory tract infections and urinary tract infections
This medication is used to treat various infections caused by different bacteria. It is effective for respiratory infections excluding acute bronchitis and community-acquired pneumonia. It treats infections in the ears, nose, and throat, but does not include pre-operative use for chronic otitis media. Additionally, it is used for bacterial prostatitis, acute uncomplicated cystitis, pyelonephritis, complicated urinary tract infections, and is also utilized for treating gonococcal cervicitis and gonococcal urethritis. It improves infections in various areas, including gastrointestinal and biliary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, bone and joint infections, gynecological infections, peritonitis, and pilonidal cysts. However, due to the risk of serious adverse reactions, it is only used for certain mild infections when no alternative treatment is available. This medication is used for the treatment of various bacterial infections.
Typically, for adult ciprofloxacin, it is taken orally 250 to 500 mg, twice a day between meals. In cases of severe complicated infections, dosage can be increased to 750 mg twice a day. For acute infections, treatment is usually for 5 to 10 days, and should be continued for at least 3 days after symptoms have disappeared. Patients with renal impairment should adjust the dosage based on creatinine clearance: 1) > 50 mL/min :
This medication may cause serious side effects such as tendonitis, tendon rupture, peripheral neuropathy, and central nervous system abnormalities, so if these symptoms appear, discontinue use immediately. Especially, patients with myasthenia gravis should not use this medication as their symptoms may worsen. This medication is used only for specific bacterial infections and should only be administered when no alternative treatment exists. Elderly patients, those with impaired kidney function, and patients on corticosteroids are at higher risk of tendon rupture and should exercise caution. If pain or inflammation is felt in the tendons while taking this medication, rest immediately and avoid strenuous exercise. Additionally, various side effects such as seizures, psychiatric abnormalities, photosensitivity reactions, and blood sugar changes may occur, and if symptoms appear, consult with a healthcare professional. Pregnant or potentially pregnant women, nursing mothers, individuals under 18, and patients with epilepsy should avoid taking this medication. Since it can interact with various drugs, consult a specialist if taking other medications. This medication is excreted via the kidneys, thus requiring dosage adjustment for patients with impaired kidney function, and elderly patients should use it cautiously. Overdose may cause kidney damage; therefore, adhere to the prescribed dosage and administration. Keep this medication away from direct sunlight and UV exposure, and store it out of reach of children. Lastly, if abnormal symptoms persist or worsen while taking this medication, visit a medical institution immediately for appropriate action.
